How in the world does he make sense since the Isles are trying to make the playoffs?
islanders are not making the playoffs. might as well pick up a pick + smith and turn the pick into a star for future performances in future nhl seasons

Probably not worth responding but Bennett is producing little and it is still a lot better than hudon this year

NHL is not a charity
Hudon is playing poorly this year yes, but that is because he isnt getting any time in montreals stacked offensive team. Okay, lets change up the deal.
To Montreal: Tkachuk + Kylington + Mike Smith
To Calgary: Price (25% retained) + 2nd Rounder

You get a top 3 goalie that can take you to the cup and Montreal gets a goalie, an AHL caliber D and a top winger

lets do it

1 pts out with 2 games in hand.

I'm sure they are willing to lose home playoff date revenue so they can have Mike Smith and the mediocre pick you are offering.

Hudon has more offensive upside than Bennett, just take a look at last year. Hudon had more points than Bennett and this year he isnt getting much of a look in as Montreal is stacked with depth forwards. Put this guy in a middle 6 role on Calgary with your top forwards and he can produce more than bennett would and at a cheaper contract. Kylington is unproven and frankly is starting to look like a bust, he would be a redeeming project on Montreal. McCarron is also a redemption project for Calgary but he is doing well in the AHL this year and is still young. Finally, Niemi > Smith in terms of experience and contract. He is on the same tier as Smith this year playing behind a poor defence. Not to mention this trade is throwing in a 2nd and a 5th rounder compared to a 4th from calgary.

Hudon + 5th > Bennett
Niemi > Smith
McCaron + 2nd > Kylington + 4th

steal for calgary, but helps both clubs out
Kylington is not looking like a bust.

Look at the points , as a rookie hudon had more points than in any of bennett's seasons including Bennett's projected stats this year. Just because montreal doesnt play hudon and his skating isnt perfect doesnt mean he doesnt have more offensive potential than bennett. I guarantee that if hudon plays bennett's minutes in calgary, he outscores him immensely. im not saying hudon is the better player, but he is the better scorer and my trade proposal is extremely fair value, in fact calgary may be getting the better end of the deal.
Its not that Hudon "doesnt skate perfectly" it's that he legitimately cannot skate well enough at the NHL level to create offensive opportunities consistently. Just because Hudon had more points last year than Bennett does not mean that his upside is higher. (He only has 4 points this year, also)

After his final season in Columbus, given his point totals, given your logic, you could say that someone like Boone Jenner had more offensive upside. But obviously, that's not the case. So using Hudon's marginally better production to negate him having far worse skating than Bennett in order to assert his higher offensive upside is flawed reasoning.

Bennett is a perfect third liner for the Flames right now. He's not producing as much as we need, but brings a lot of energy and grit.

The Flames aren't including him as a throw in.

Hudon is also smaller, older, and producing less than Bennett. He would fall on the depth chart below Jankowski, Neal, and the entire top 6. The Flames have a deep team right now. It's not the right environment for a guy looking for increased ice time so he can finally break out.

And lol Kylington a bust? He's a talented young player who looks to be making leaps forward. He's a solid third pairing guy with the potential for much more. The organization is putting a lot of resources into developing him. He's not getting traded.

We're first in the league with the lowest GA. A big part of that being Lehner, who leads the league in both GAA and SV%.

Your Habs have the 8th highest GA, despite having the most expensive goaltender in the NHL.

So yeah, I don't think "you're not making the playoffs, might as well pick up a crappy pick that might turn into a star" is a very enticing pitch for Lou.

That's worse than the previous trade you proposed. Tkachuk is a top line winger, no goalie in league's history alone fetches him. Price isn't even good anymore and has a very bad contract. I'm sorry but I don't think Montreal and Calgary would be good trading partners at all, unless we can discuss a Petry trade.

Nope, nobody wants Montreal’s AHL junk. Hudon wouldn’t make our team. Niemi isn’t better than Smith and McCaron can’t even make the Canadiens, definitely not even an NHL player.

Just to be clear, the Flames are probably looking at moving an asset like a 2nd.... Not a key piece.

With LeBrun reporting the flames want another depth LHD, I wonder if something can be done with Detroit. Howard and Kronwall?

Do we even have a 2nd this year?

Not this year. Going to NYI as part of Hamonic deal.

2 phase deal:
part 1 - actual:
Georgiev + NYR 2019 2nd
for
CGY 2019 1st + Rychel or other acceptable expiring cap dump

part 2 - conditional:
If Georgiev hits certain production targets this season and next,
then
NYR 2021 2nd
for
CGY 2021 1st

If targets not met, no conditional payment

Young guy
barring injury should have enough energy to shoulder lots of netminder duties balance of year
tutored under renown goalie coach, guru Benoit Allaire
elc years
cost controlled rfa yrs follow

You really think a goalie might return 2 first rounders?

Your proposals are usually garbage, but this one might take the cake.

Lol.

So Flames take a risk by downgrading their first for an unproven goalie.... Then they pay you again if that risk works out for them.

Georgiev was recently signed undrafted, and really doesn't look all that great. In what universe is he worth that much? Each organization has multiple goalies of that caliber. The Flames need a goalie who can play for a contending team. How has Georgiev established himself like that?
