Weal SCF/SCA 74/43; HDCF/CA 32/17
Laughton SCF/SCA 49/73; HDCF/CA 26/31
Vorobyev SCF/SCA 17/44; HDCF/CA 7/22
Couts SCF/SCA 115/108; HDCF/CA 37/50
Patrick SCF/SCA 69/79; HDCF/CA 37/28

Last six games:
Weal CF 50.0, SCF/SCA 41/24; HDCF/CA 19/8
Couts CF 53.59, SCF/SCA 42/30; HDCF/CA 12/14
Patrick CF 42.20, SCF/SCA 34/42; HDCF/CA 23/14
Lehtera CF 29.63, SCF/SCA 3/19; HDCF/CA 3/8
Laughton CF 43.02, SCF/SCA 6/11; HDCF/CA 2/5

Laughton struggled in the top 9, right now I think the problem is Lehtera is dinged and has regressed.
Laughton may just be more effective in a 4th line, forechecking role.
When JVR returns Hak will probably go Weise - Laughton - NAK
Then when Raff returns, Raffl - Laughton - Weise

I know this kills Striiker, but Weal has been our best center.
Patrick is interesting, I think his numbers reflect how careful he is and how responsible he is defensively, he doesn't generate a lot of shots, but generates good scoring chances without getting burned at the other end of the ice.

The top 3 on the team in CF% are also the top three in oZS%. Laughton has the second-highest dZS%.

Zone Start impacts on Shot metrics are often severely overrated when taken on the whole. You have significant Shot impacts for ~15-20 seconds.

Laughton has started 29 of his 231 5v5 Shifts in the Defensive Zone. If you want to significantly move his DZS% rank within the team, you're talking about moving a handful of Shifts relative to the whole.

When shifts are less than a minute, 15-20 seconds is kind of significant.

That aside, the point is that someone was trotting out Weal's CF% like that one number is particularly meaningful. No single stat can sum up anything. No two stats can sum up anything. Stats are a tool. Nothing more, nothing less.

Personally, I think Weal is a liability. He's weak on the puck and he doesn't bury his chances. His CF% doesn't change that. Weal is 26 now. When a guy has wheels, people tend to give him a lot more rope. I think Weal reached the end of his rope last season. He's just a placeholder at this point.

Weal is certainly not a liability the way he's been playing the last six games. Every metric supports the eyeball that he's driving play and making good things happen, and he's not picking up the bad stick penalties he was committing his first few games. He's still meh on defense, but he's a plus on offense.

Now can he maintain this good play? Stay tuned.
