Does he go back to the WHL next year, or does he have an option to play in Utica?

Something tells me he had some sort of injury in the middle part of the season. How do you go from a good start to being bad enough you can't get on the WJC team that was hoping he would start to suddenly being this good again? Did his talent get siphoned off by someone looking to steal gas for their truck? Ups and downs are one thing but this was dramatic. Injury makes more sense to me than a cold streak lasting three months.

He stopped 43 of 45 shots tonight in his team's 3-2 Shootout win. Earned 1st star of the game too. Kids on fire and is 9-1-1 in his last 11 starts. He turns 20 this fall so I'm going to assume he will be in the AHL or ECHL. He had a rough middle stretch of the season but he seems to have really found his game latley. Always good to have something in the pipeline past Schmid and Daws.

He had a rough 1st playoff game letting in 5 goals on 32 shots against. His 2nd start he made 17 saves on 18 shots against in a 2-1 overtime victory.

Brennan went 21-10-2 in the regular season and managed to drop his GAA from last year 3.58 to 2.86 this year. That's a good sign and he should be eligible to turn pro next season too.

If my math is correct he was at .922 over his last 11 starts in the regular season. Clearly something was off earlier in the season as he struggled for quite some time. With prospects the important thing in my view tends to be how they finish since that is what they will presumably go forward with into a pro career. That said, his playoff has been uneven at best so far this season. With any luck he settles in after the second game and finishes strong.

I’m not even sure what an average save percentage is in that league, but I’m gonna assume it isn’t .898%-.899%.

I’m a bit bummed, as he was seriously the best goalie out of I think the four that were used in that training camp scrimmage that was streamed back when he was still up at the very beginning of camp.

Looked like he might wind up being pretty good. Maybe he still will be pretty good?

I bet it is very close. Here's a list of the top WHL goal scorers and their shooting percentages I compiled over in the Filmon thread.

A comparable list in the NHL from eyeballing it looks less, plus I think top players in the WHL play more, which means there's less ice time for worse shooters to make worse shots.

EDIT: Among goalies who played 30 or more games in the WHL last year, I counted 14 with a better SV% and 17 with worse. So yeah, he is right at the average.

I hope he can play in Utica, those 8 hour bus rides from hell he has to go on would be mentally destroying for me
September 03 Birth date, so looks like he'll be eligible. If the Devils jettison Blackwood and Schmid becomes backup, then he could get the promotion to the A. Unless they decide to go with a veteran to go with Daws, being that Brennan is so young.

I think they’ll go with the vet with Daws, just to have insurance in case Schmid struggles in the NHL. I think he’ll be up to the AHL in 24-25 though.

There’s a reason goalies are the hardest to project and draft. There are so many variables that can protect or hinder a goalie and hide their true form. Brennan has a lot of what you want to see in a goalie prospect and I will be curious how he develops over the next few years with the right or wrong coaches around him.
