Well, this is a less-than-auspicious start. However, I think we need to temper our expectations with this squad this year. It's a new group that needs to learn how to lose like in 2007, and come back the next year building that fire.

No talk of firing Clode. With this defense, that's laughable. He's got nothing.

Jesus Christ himself couldnt coach this D group into a silk purse.

while the d is terrible (especially irwin and trotman) those goals aren´t all on them and the forwards should have scored more goals...

the moment one of the d-men is out of position a forward should help out => one d-men against 2 forwards looks bad most of the time (especially if his name is irwin or trotman)

He's no Tim Thomas. He fits right in. He's not Superman saving anything. Just a "good" goalie.

They need to. There is 3 Dmen, all better, sitting on the side lines. Honestly, if they ice this D against Montreal we are going to get fried. Literally, deep fried in ****.

Irwin literally looked like one of the brain-dead AI defensemen in NHL 16 on that last goal. He looks absolutely brutal, just as he did so many times in preseason.

I honestly just want to see the team fight back and look like they did in the 1st period again. Even if we lose the game by 1 goal or whatever, I won't mind if the level of play is good.

Irwin being useless on the boards is one thing, but trotman hovering around in coverage not even looking like picking up a guy is just criminal. The one way not to defend in ice hockey is to sit in front of your goalie and puck watch.

I'd get yelled at by my coach if I defended like that.

Only player I saw doing that was Loui, when Morrow went down below the goal line with the puck I watched Loui cycle out to the point and take his position and stop the break out pass. Honestly, if anyone ever questions Loui's value to this team you've got rocks in your head. He is so smart, he and Bergy are literally a step ahead of everyone when reading the play.

He's depressing to watch... His preseason play didn't deserve a spot on the roster and his play tonight is emberassing... Miller here we come

Probably should have said team defense.

Either way we are leaving huge holes and making too many mistakes.

Then when we have a chance to score we aren't burying the puck. A team with Swiss Cheese for defense needs to be able to score.

This had better be Irwin's last game for awhile, the guy is brutal, coupled with Trotman they are the NHL's worst pairing. This is on Julien for playing him over C. Miller, idiotic decision that can back to bite him hard.

The forwards have played well tonight except for the poor finish, making Pavlac look like a HOF.

Rask has to have that 1st goal, shot was from long distance with no screen, good shot, but he just has to have that.

How the hell is Matt Irwin playing instead of Colin Miller? Irwin looked like garbage after the first preseason game. He's HORRIBLE.

3rd line was getting absolutely abused that period.
