That was heartbreaking, but I'm very encouraged by the improvement, and the play by all the kids.

Exactly!! We haven't had a blowout loss lately and the compete level is better every outing the last 4 games. This loss may have hurt worse than the two murders we faced against Blues and Lightning. At least those games we knew it was over, this game we showed guts and effort and clawed back.

Thomas went beast mode and unfortunately let a softie slip in. If we play like this from now on, the hockey gods have to side with us more often.

Bring on the Wild! Talk to you guys Saturday! :(

I'm mad about the first period. This team can't hope to win by playing 40 minutes.

To be fair I think Boston only showed up for the first period and turned the jets on again after Panthers tied it. These teams aren´t on the same level although it might have seemed so the last two periods. But good effort and certainly a step to the right direction.

I had the joy of watching one of the worst games in panthers history. If dineen isn't fired by tomorrow than Tallon is as incompetent as our coaching staff. We deserved to lose 8-0 tonight. The bruins were terrible.

i think you guys have a bright future in front of you. learning curve will be sickening at times, but hey, that's the only way to learn, right?

Thanks. But it feels like we've been learning for ages now.

BTW, love you avatar/username. I was born in Saint John and lived there for the first 15 years of my life. The Saint John Flames were a big part of my growing love for hockey as a kid. I remember seeing their Calder Cup winning game against the Portland Pirates by a score of 1-0.

Tons of great players played in that city, nice to see some support for the boys at the old Harbour Station.

haha i was there when they won too. i was 9 at the time and it was the most exciting thing ever.

but hey if the panthers can keep playing like that, the points will eventually come. I remember in calgary Bob Hartley said it last year, if you can play hungry and outwork the opposition, you'll eventually get your break and won't look back.

I've been pretty unimpressed with Dineen so far this season, and I would still feel this way if we won this game tonight. Just a lot of questionable decisions coming from him to start this season. No clue if anything happens there. I'd venture to say if there aren't many more blowouts, I doubt it -- but if the team continues to put up stinkers, I think he might be out of a job.

I did enjoy seeing Huberdeau lay the body on Chara and chirp at Boston's bench.

Seriously though, something really has to change to keep the effort up 60 minutes. If we play like we did through periods 2 and 3 all season, there's no way we're a basement team. Maybe not a playoff team either, but not as bad as we've been. But the effort isn't constant. It's sickening.

Also, put Matthias on a better line. He's trying so hard to get on the scoresheet.

Matthias has simply turned it on in the third. Like flipping a damn switch.

Someone please explain to me why last game Upshall sits and basically the best line on the ice agaist Nashville was Matthias, Winchester and Goc. Tonight Upshall goes on that line and Matthias gets totally under utilized with just over ten minutes of ice and fourth line. If it wasn't for the four minute penalty in the third his ice time would have been a lot less. How much longer am I going to have to watch these runts like Gomez and Versteeg trying to match up against the top lines of real hockey teams? Let's get the size guys going for @#$% sake!!

I blame this loss completely on a 30-40 minute effort instead of a 60 minute one. The first period, as Dineen said himself, was the worst ones of the year. After being down 2-0, once again the team had to battle back. Midway through the 2nd period, I started seeing the "other" team we know as we saw against the Pens last week. The 3rd period until the last few minutes was amazing. However, you can only expect Thomas to hold on for so long when you have a defense that let's up 40 shots a game and you can't clear the puck out of the zone nor win the faceoff there. It's a real bummer of an ending, but when you have to comeback and don't score first, it's not easy to get a win.

I still saw many positives throughout the game. I'm very impressed with Versteeg, Winchester, Bjugstad, and Matthias's efforts. I know we heard bad things about Gilroy from other team's fans, but I really like what I'm seeing from him more every game. Despite his positioning on some of the goals, Thomas had a monster of a game with 37 saves. I'd still say he should start on Saturday. As far as negatives, I really don't understand what's going with Kulikov and think he's in Dineen's doghouse after that 4-minute highsticking penalty. The Campbell/Gilbert pairing needs to be broken up as that's not working either.

If everyone on the team could just play consistently every game, I really don't think we're that bad of a team. It's just if we're going to play for only half the game, how can we expect to get many wins? I think this loss really hurt the boys from the looks on their faces after the game. I kind of expect them to get off to a fast start against the Wild. Well, I hope.

fight in the stands?

Yup was in section 133 or so. didn't see all of it but there was a woman involved at some point. Whole bunch of people got to get a police escort out of the stadium Panther and Bruin fans.

Last goal sucked I think it was Bergeron that out muscled Barkov to get it to Smith but for ****s sake this team really needs to learn to clear the puck. Something has to change with the D on this team whether its Murphy or Dineen that has to change I don't care. They make clearing the puck from their zone a Benny Hill skit. How many times this year have they turned it over right in front of their own net. It's ridiculous. They seem to be improving but they can't seem to play 3 strong periods its really frustrating to watch. Hopefully they don't throw a stinker on Saturday.:rant::rant::rant::rant::rant::rant:

Because besides being a good skater and providing good effort he can't do much else. He is not a good passer, does not have good vision and has a hard time putting the puck in the net. Watch Gomez game more closely and you will notice he is not as bad as you make him out to be, quick decisions with the puck, good vision, good passer, etc. He has his short comings obviously, but he is better than Matthias as a top 2 center ON THIS team

it was in my section, sect. 131. but i really didn't see what happened because i was watching the game. i dont really care to see a bunch of drunk morons punch each other in the face for no good reason.

just curious, but is the tune on gudbranson starting to change here? i gave him credit during the preseason but it hasn't translated to the regular season. he does have more confidence with the puck now, but he's turning the puck over too much still & his defensive awareness is still awful. what was he doing on the first goal?

:::sigh:::: 2-6-0 already. if we don't turn this around soon it's gonna be a looooooooong season. the most frustrating part is, on paper, we really don't look that much worse than we did in 11-12. no true top line, but good forward depth. D "on paper" is similar, but the result is not, for whatever reason.

at least thomas played well today. some hope? goaltending is the most important piece and markstrom's been awful...so maybe thomas can help right the ship a bit.

This won't end well.

You called that one EARLY, sir :help:

Gudbranson is really frustrating to watch.

He seems to be one of the best to watch when he's putting players through the boards (cleanly), or most frustrating when he uses bad angles and tries those mini WEAK cross checks instead of moving his feet and using his stick at the same time, he needs to work on having his stick on the ice a LOT MORE.

God damn this team is just awful. Each game is a carbon copy of itself. Get a bunch of chances to start, can't finish on any of them ever. Other team rushes down the ice and scores on the first shot of the rush.

Will we ever, EVER be the team that gets to rush up ice and score? Or will we forever have to watch our players lack any sort of finishing ability?

At least Bjugstand looks good. He has the best wrist shot on the team by far.

Summed that up well.

wonder if that ******* jack edwards is suggesting we move to quebec yet

I was surprised, on good behaviour all night from what I heard. Wonder why? Maybe he did not want to badmouth a former Bruin legend??

A terrible turnover and lazy effort from Campbell led to that penalty. It's time for Soupy to get some criticism as well. He's been mediocre for awhile now.

Wow, has he been off this season. Even last year was better:amazed: Where is the Soup we traded for a few seasons ago??

Meanwhile..

Garrison going PPG, 3 goals 8 points.

Sigh.

Wanted out, went home like others before him (ie. Bou)...who cares.

If Markstrom challenged like Thomas did and corrected his dropping to butterfly too quick, I feel he could avoid the softies on his glove side.

I agree those high shots would not go in if he came out of the net more and stood his ground. Probably will continue to approach the game the same way he was trained to do so though.

Yeah I liked the Fox Sports girls until I saw them wear a Lightning jersey

Ya, and going on their intermission shows. Wrong:shakehead

Our PK is more positionly sound then our 5 on 5 crew so we should be confident killing this off.

I feel good or decent when the Panthers take a minor prior to running around in own zone, it's like a nice little break from watching our dmen handle the puck like a grenade.

****en love when Kopy does that. He needs to just annoy the **** out of everyone on the ice.

MORE! MORE!

Holy ****, can Matthias catch a break?

He was one of the best tonight, like him with Bjugstad. Play Matthias on that wing from now on. Can't remember the other linemate?
