They have breaks at that speed, or is it just the kid who can stay on his blades more?

This one had brakes. In fact a few kids that were out there were shockingly good skaters. One on the other team walked around his defender and then cut back across the ice to go top shelf for a goal (Well, top shelf for a 5 year old, so more like half-shelf. Legit over the goalie's glove though). Another just about pulled off a spinorama goal. Though the spin might've been a bit of an accident.

I don't know. That seems somewhat....

*sunglasses*

...inconceivable.

EDIT: I lost it at the porn music at the end. It just fit into that scene so naturally

EDIT 2: I also liked "Danny DeVit-ish" though really Wallace Shawn isn't Danny DeVito. He's the well-adjusted and personable opposite-land Danny DeVito.

He's the Danny DeVito with DirecTV? :sarcasm:

Boo, the Arena hotel doesn't have CSN-C in its cable package. I was hoping to be able to watch the Wednesday game in LA without having to go to a bar or something. I'm not a "watch the game in a bar" type of person. I like to be able to have my laptop out and be excited/frustrated in peace. Hilarious that they have like 4 ESPN channels and NBCSN but not the local sports channel. Unless it's a carrier issue.

The game is on NBCSN.

When you do feel like going for a beer however, down the block to the arena hotel is a whole foods that has a lovely open air brew pub. Good selection of beer and decent food.

if you go the other way about 2 blocks is Creme a decent coffee house. and then a couple more gets you to Cafe Rosalena for tasty breakfast burritos....

this hotel may or may not be a block from my house.

...damnit now I want a breakfast burrito

Happy 10 year HF-versary (plus one week) to me!

When I joined this site, I wasn't sure where I was going to college. Right this instant I am on my way to interviews for professor jobs.

Time sure flies when you're lurking, I guess. :amazed:

As this is my 20,000th post, I would just like to thank all of you for becoming part of my life. I look forward to seeing discussion about something I enjoy, which is very rare for me nowadays. Even though activity has been way down from previous seasons, it has still been a pleasure.

Picking non-sports-related goods for sports-color related reasons is one of the surest signs you're a fan.

I may or may not own a ton of things in teal in large part because of my Sharks fandom.

Meanwhile, I discovered I'm not the only Canadian tourist in San Jose right now!

CGeese.jpg

Difference is that while Canadian people are renowned for their friendly, polite nature, Canadian geese are renowned for being the aggressive, abrasive asshats of the water fowl world.

It's like the goods looked down and said "Damn Canadians are getting kinda full of themselves. Let's take their international rep for easy-going-ness and **** it up by equating the bird most likely to fly into a violent frenzy and attack you for no reason with their country. Then see what happens."

:sarcasm:

Just the Sharks. Every few years I try to make it down for a stretch of home games. So I've been here from Monday until the Saturday game vs the Avs. Plus the Cuda game that was on Monday too.

Nice, doing anything fun in the area? Or just camping out in your hotel room and watching hockey?

Today, with the rain (Between that and the temperature, it feels just like home!) and the game on TV tonight I'm likely just camping in the hotel room, except maybe to go get some lunch. I've already done some of the tourist-y stuff in previous visits, so yesterday I just sort of meandered around downtown to see if anything caught my eye and went back to the arena to better browse the Sharks Store away from game time. I want to make it up to SF for an afternoon, but it might be Friday or bust given the Thursday and Saturday games and that I don't want to be in a rush to get back. We'll see.

If you're looking for a good sandwich, go over to Ike's in Santa Clara. It's a few minutes up the street on Alameda just past 880 near SCU. Really good sandwiches.

I live right by SCU, so if you're looking for more food recommendations i'm happy to help :)

I miss Ike's in San Francisco sooooo much. I always got the Matt Cain, double meat on dutch crunch bread... mmm Used to work down the block from the original one on Sanchez. I've probably dropped a few pounds since our office moved/Ike's in SF closed.
