Oh, look, it didn't take long before people started missing ZAR. Weird how his absence or presence could have any effect on forechecking of the lines who actually play for the vast majority of the game... must be a superpower or something.
Well, for starters, we traded away two players who tended to play on different lines and therefore they aided in the forechecking of two different lines.
Furthermore, there comes a point where you stop forechecking and either score a goal, or the goalie makes a save and you have an offensive-zone faceoff. When that happens, the lower lines come off and a Top 6 line comes on. And guess what? They don't necessarily have to forecheck if they can win the faceoff and cycle the puck.

The Keyboard Experts hated Simon and ZAR because they are too stupid to realize anything outside goal scoring. Board play? They think that's posting silly gifs to this site. Now we see the fall out.

I mean Blueger looks terrible without ZAR.

The trade was fine but its important to understand the pros and the negatives.

If you ya'll think Simon and ZAR were the keys to success, you better define SUCCESS.

You don't even realize you're agreeing with the group that believe Sully is the problem. Reality is, those two guys are gone; Yet Sully is still trying to ram his system into this current team. (and I do mean ram into)

Kap fell off a cliff............could Sully be the problem?
Take a look at playoff scoring from our top line the last several years..........could Sully be the problem??

You either see it or you don't. I can take a horse to water, but it's up to his dumb ass not get eaten by a gator.

Thank you for your time and consideration

You can be “sharp” and allow 5 goals with an 83% save percentage???

giphy-downsized-large.gif

Our standards are so low for Jarry as of late.
Did I not qualify my statement saying “despite the goals allowed”?

Did you see the game- particularly the 2nd period?

He made point blank stops, post to post stops, he was athletic. Game could’ve been 10-1. He kept them in it that period. I was encouraged. I didn’t say he got the job done, I said he was sharp.

Hextall will see what the Pens are and what they aren't in the playoffs. He knows this is a good team. He also knows that with the cap tight when he came in is limiting his moves. Trade for Rakell was fine and hopefully some discussion was in his interest in signing a deal here. Rust knows he has to see what the market is and Letang sees he is the only D man that can play the right side with offense. Hextall needs to restructure the D.
Wouldn't mind Manson being signed as a UFA.

Everyone is fretting about Letang. The obvious move if he's asking for the moon is to let him walk and sign a physical D to pair with Matheson (such as Manson).

You'll save 3-5 million per and probably be much better overall as a team.

Success is the team playing in such a way that it brings them a better chance of winning than any other way.
You don't even realize you're agreeing with the group that believe Sully is the problem. Reality is, those two guys are gone; Yet Sully is still trying to ram his system into this current team. (and I do mean ram into)
Because even though the team's likelihood of winning anything now is lower than it was before the trade deadline, it is still higher than it would be with any other system. There is no feasible system or group of players that is going to allow a nearly-35-year-old Sidney Crosby as a 1C and a 35-year-old Evgeni Malkin as a 2C to outscore all of its problems.
Kap fell off a cliff............could Sully be the problem?
No. Kapanen's shooting percentage last season was unsustainably high. It was always going to regress, and regress hard.
Take a look at playoff scoring from our top line the last several years..........could Sully be the problem??
No, not unless he's telling them that they've won enough and can rest on their laurels now.
You either see it or you don't.
Yes, you either see that Sullivan is making this group of players into more than the sum of its parts, or you don't.

First of all Sullivan has and was playing Malkin on the wing, which is the most stupid ish ever. Malkin did not play center the last two games.

Until Zucker returns I would have Blueger Or Kapanen play with with Malkin and Rakell

'If only Sullivan would quit screwing the lines up, this team could score 7 goals a game.'

You mean the same Mike Sullivan who successfully used the trap in 2017?

You want the team to be demoralized and more likely to sleepwalk through the playoffs than they have been in recent years?

Trading away two of the team's best forecheckers could be what led to this result.
Wait what? Who? ZAR and Simon? LOL

I'm laughing my ass off at those people believing Jarry had a bad game

Exactly what goals did you want him to stop?
The two long bombs from the blueline and the Helm (yes, Helm, not MacKinnon) breakaway …he got sloppy (tired?) himself at the end, just like the rest of the team

The template needs to be that the team is in other teams’ faces again with their forecheck pressure and put the clamps on defensively…ZAR and Simon weren’t the saviors for doing this lol…we’ve gotten away from playing this way and that’s fine since they’re going to make the POs…but if we don’t see that team at all in the POs,we’re losing in the first round again

Do you agree with the premise that the "Forecheck has been kind of nonexistent for a few weeks"? If you think the forecheck is the same as it's always been, then that would explain your confusion.
Forecheck hasnt been as good, but if you watched ZAR and Simon, they weren’t our entire forecheck…everyone else can do it well, they’re just not playing that way for 60 min…also, forecheck had been trending down long before they left…witness the previous Rangers games they were there for

We need to walk away from #71. He's just not a good 5 on 5 player anymore. Some games he tries some games he doesn't. He never stops just takes big fruit loops around the ice. Honestly he's a powerplay specialist at this point in his career. We can't afford that luxury. I can't think of one reason to keep him at 7+ million. So much effort has been made by the keyboard experts excusing his play and making excuses. It is pathetic as his efforts some nights. When's the last time you saw him win a battle on the boards? Get the puck from a forecheck?

You know #71 is allowed to make the players around him better. That's why he's the highest paid player on the team. But we have to make excuses for him. Just walk away from #71 and that contract. He'll get hurt again anyway.

Let both Malkin and Letang walk. Infuse young talent. To everyone that say's things seem to stay the same and we'll be first round exits, well here you go. Here's real change.

Get back to structured play.

The Keyboard Experts hated Simon and ZAR because they are too stupid to realize anything outside goal scoring. Board play? They think that's posting silly gifs to this site. Now we see the fall out.

Congrats on #71 being a threat 5 on 5 vs one of the NHL's worst teams during an outlier of a game in 11-1.

You think #1 stinks in the playoffs? Rust on #2 would be worst that that's because that line would have a worse center.
I fully realize I'm feeding the favorite player troll but this is the kind of stuff people use when they are bullshitting about a topic they know little about and are hoping you know even less. ZAR was a factor on the boards? In what year and in what universe? The most vanilla 'hits' that barely impacted opposing players, he was very small and not particularly strong, had a short stick and no special ability on the boards to keep the puck alive and had very little impact in any situation. When ZAR was on the ice nothing happened. If you can imagine a hockey player without a pulse you'd be describing ZAR. You can insert Simon there too. He once had some chemistry with Crosby and that died with whatever shoulder injury he had and time apparently.

The fact that you're on here trashing Evgeni Malkin again and pining for two of the most vanilla, non-impactful players who have ever worn a Pens jersey is so on brand it hardly needs the attention I'm giving it.

The forecheck has its moments but the struggles have nothing to do with the run of the mill players that were traded. Changing 3 of the 4 lines every three seconds might have something to do with the lack of chemistry and unified play we've seen. Only one line on this team stays together. I'll wait for you to post the Cup or deep run we have ever made while changing lines so much from game to game for everyone line but the first.

It’s tough and you feel icky when you have to agree with Mark Madden….

“The Penguins’ style is based on speed. But the Rangers are faster. When the teams play, the Penguins are too often chasing the game.

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan won’t pursue a Plan B. Live by speed, die by speed. Perhaps the Penguins can find another gear.”

Goes on to raise the Lemieux anecdote where they switched up to play the trap to win the PO series against the Caps

I’m not worried about a couple losses to Colorado. Last night they were buzzing. Not much the Pens could do.

Avs are just a better, bigger, younger, faster more talented team. If both teams play their best the Avs are gonna win.

Doesn’t mean the Penguins can’t make a run however. Big game coming against the Rags.

+ Jarry was sharp despite the number of goals
- Petts
- - Carter
Jarry wasn't sharp

he was average at best, when Steigy has issues with his gioaltending and Bourque, than its a pretty good sign that its not all that good. His save percentage and especially HDCS percentage dropped significantly...

Keyboard Experts..."factor on the boards" = hitting. Simon and ZAR were good on the cycle along the boards.

You have to be astute though to realize that though. My bar of hockey talk is a lot higher I guess.

I don't think the trap would work against Rangers. They know our weak link and thats our defense behind and around our goal. They have fast guys that can dump behind, get to the puck first and their defense move to the blue line and pinch...our only chnace against Rangers is bring it to their side, need young fresh legs for that...

Malkin is still playing center in the offensive zone. He just hasn't been taking faceoffs, and that's because Carter is better.

Carter was 15-3 in the circle last night.

The Penguins style or identity is not based speed.

Our identity is an aggressive forecheck and defense pinching that tries to overwhelm teams and controlling the possession.

Crosby's line against McKinnon dominated possession last night especially in the first. They (avs) capitalized on the chances they had though one time not against the crosby line.

NZ clog would slow their transition game and if we could generate some turnovers we would some good chances to plop in a goal…I think that’s a better strategy than play them straight up…in case you haven’t noticed, we’re icing a lot of mid-30s players and the reason for that is that we don’t have better replacements for them…no young fresh skilled legs are coming lol…
