I think for a game or two Bitetto could move up to the 4 spot. I Ionger than that and we might need a trade.

I thought Justin Schultz would be a good signing for the third pair if the price is right. Skates well and has some scoring skills, shouldn't be a regular on the top pair but gas plenty of experience there and can handle the load if needed. If the price is right he would fit the mold of what Lavy/Poile are trying to do as evidenced by the Subban trade.

It would then force Granny to MIL and rotate the 6/7 spot between Weber and Bitetto, mist likely Bitetto because a Schultz-Weber pair would be horrific. It would also ensure that Irwin never sniffs the NHL roster.

Unfortunately Schultz isn't going to come at the right price.

Wasn't he a total -75 over his years in Edmonton?

I have no intention of taking up for Schultz but the Oilers backend is and has been complete garbage for going on 10 years. So it is impossible to look at + - and get any indication if one of there defensemen could be salvaged.

Ekholm and Ellis can be split up the way they were last year when Ekholm played with Granberg and Ellis with Bitetto. We really don't know how Subban will be best paired with yet. Might be Josi but could be Ekholm. They'll be some mix and matching before that gets figured out. Bitetto and Granberg turned out to be better then I thought they would when they weren't a pair themselves.

I could see a couple different d combinations to be honest. It'll be interesting to see how lavi puts them.

And then a +7 in 18 games with the Pens. No clearer of an example could be made about how much it's a team statistic.

As a #5 for anything under $2M and I think I'd take the chance.

Yeah he's a former promising defensive prospect but now he's looking like a 26 year old bust. He's a potential project that I could see Poile going for.

However I'm looking at his $4M AAV contract last year. Not to say that he's going to get $4M but I think it's negotiating leverage to get him a contract over $2M AAV. That's not what we want to pay for a 5/6D.

I'm extremely familiar with Schultz, and I feel like he may go into training camp unsigned because of contract demands. I think there are several teams that would sign him, but I also feel like the GMs are going to send him a message that he's not worth what he's asking, I think he signs a 1 year deal for $1.85

isn't Schultz another college player who stiffed the team that drafted him? And then he chose Edmonton?

Either he aint too bright or he gets bad advice.

Would have benefited much more from signing and developing slowly, could have been a decent 3/4. There's still hope that in the right situation he can turn it around. If not, he's okay as a 5/6 and PP specialist. He's better than Andy Delmore anyway.

A sick part of me would like to see Vesey go down the same path, snub the Preds go elsewhere in a top role right away and struggle his way into bust territory because of his inflated ego and sense of entitlement.

Was rushed by Edmonton, but to be fair, he absolutely shredded the AHL. I think he was on pace for something like 100 points as a defenseman when he got called up.

Price to sign with Nashville? Free agent in 2018.

Just saying y'all :sarcasm:
We can be the Colts of the NHL. They have Peyton Manning forever and then turn around and get Andrew Luck. We have Vokoun for years, now Rinne and then when he leaves we can just go grab Price real quick. Works for me.

...Regarding the connection with (Yannick) Weber, if he works out to the point where he's still in Nashville by that point that's a win in itself.

Price has won pretty well every trophy but the SC, and imho he'll never get a Cup on a Therrien team. Price is not the type to show his feelings publicly but there's a good chance he's had enough and will choose to go to free agency.

If Nashville is making a run but Rinne is question mark who knows Price could be a Pred in ~18 mos.

I still think that Bitetto and Granberg will be our third pair. I believe that once this decision was made, Poile decided to waive Jackman (can't pay the 7th d-man $3 million) and sign a vet for the league minimum. Weber is a much cheaper permascratch than Jackman.

...or Price could pull a Roy, demand a trade after a few months into the season, and...

I agree Granberg will be in the mix. I like his upside a lot.

I like this Y. Weber signing

I have seen a few games with Weber playing on Montreal and Vancouver and I remember having a pretty decent impression of him. It's usually pretty hard to get an impression of a rival defenseman unless you see obvious mistakes and he did not stand out that way. What I remember of him is that he had some escapability with his skating and a pretty hard accurate shot. I do remember that he could sometimes be pressured successfully into making a non-perfect pass, but that might be solvable with a better system. If he sticks, our defense will be very mobile on all lines.

You think Weber and Subban get paired up since they have played on the same team before?
