I think it's simple. The Capitals have played well in his absence and they don't want to upset the apple cart right now by bringing back a player who has been a problem to fit in for awhile now. No one is claiming that contract.

Seems like a smart gamble for a team like say Anaheim. If he bounces back next year and is pacing near PPG, you could get an absolute haul at the deadline

I get that they are disappointed with him, but doing this the day he is cleared from the NHLPA's assistance program is just complete bullshit.

Well, it was his choice, so maybe that changes your tune.

And even if it wasn’t, the Caps organization has bent over backwards for Kuznetsov more so than any other player I can remember. They’ve dealt with his off-ice bullshit and declining play for years and did everything they could to help him out. They tried trading him multiple seasons in a row when he requested it and no one wanted him. There’s nothing malicious about anything the Caps have done towards Kuzy.
