Super pleased with Matteau progress

He is twice the player he was last year

That's definitely what I've taken away from this. He has improved dramatically. Just have to hope he'll continue to improve enough to where he'll be worth the 1st round pick spent on him.

I'd like to see him up in the NHL before Zubrus calls it quits. Zubes can teach him so much.

How far away do we think he is? Next year is a real possibility imo. Anything beyond start of 15-16 season is worrisome.

He'll play out his contract, which goes through the 2015-2016 season. I'm not confident he'll still be any good by then, but it does give the team that long to bring Matteau up to try and learn under him.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Matteau up this year.

If he can take a solid WJC performance back to Albany and continue to improve he'll be on the short list, the very short list of call-ups.

Someone mentions a bench fly-by at the Ottawa WJHC that made linesmen be instructed to interfere when them.

ANyone recall who did it?

Boucher down, Matteau up.

Boucher's better right now in my opinion and I want Matteau to get more AHL experience. He needs to learn to play pesty without taking too many dumb penalties. I also noticed he floats around a bit in the offensive zone and would like to see him work on that. His boardplay and cycling is his strength and his skating is pretty good though. I didn't watch the USA vs Russia game so maybe he played well in those areas, but from the previous games I definitely feel he still has some work to do. Boucher should go down once everyone becomes healthy, but I'd rather have him up than Matteau right now.

Pettersson can pack his bags after starting a fight after the final whistle. Russia is classless as always starting **** after the game but no reason for Pettersson to jump out of the box and start fighting.

How stupid to take yourself out of the Gold Medal Game.

Sweden was on the PK at the end of the game and Russia had the extra attacker on, so it was 6 on 4 when Russia started a scrum after the whistle. Total bushleague move but not unexpected from the Vodka Bears.

I can understand that Petterson wanted to even things up a bit more, but getting involved in the scrum would have been enough, no reason to jump out of the penalty box like an elk on acid and start a fight.

All that talent on both teams and not one of them a Devils draft pick.

That's what happens when you're more often than not, a successful franchise. You don't usually end up with high enough picks to get these talents.

Though in hindsight, Lou should never have kept the 29th pick, I'm still confident that Matteau will be, at the very least, a Zubrus-clone(just a bit more gritty with no DJ'ing skills).

So it's going to be Sweden versus Finland. Interesting matchup.

Normally, I wouldn't care if Russia won but since I associate it with Kovy-crap now, I'm actually quite pleased they have no shot at a gold medal.

BTW, can we please find a way to bring up Matteau now?

In his final game where they got eliminated by said Russians, he had a goal and an assist.
