The Moose released Stallard and Utaski from their tryout contracts. ( as per Moose website news)

Skyler McKenzie played and got a goal in the last Moose playoff game.

Skyler is only 3 months younger than Stallard and they posted similar #s in the dub this year. Stallard has better
size than Skyler.

Looks like the Jets will not be signing Stallard by June 1st and he will be re-entering the 2018 draft.

We have 1 more year to sign Skyler as he was drafted in his 2nd year of draft eligibility in 2016.

We can't be certain about Stallard just yet. There could be many other reasons why he was released from his ATO.

How did Skyler look? Perrault type players (by that i mean feisty :)).

He isn’t anything like Perreault. He just tries to play sound postionally. To become an NHLer he will need to figure out how to be feisty without losing those instincts.

TBH he hardly played in the two games he was in and he was scratched for game 5. But he looked pretty much exactly how he did when I saw him play with the Winterhawks. He just played a lot less with the Moose

I wouldn't be to quick to count out Stallard yet. Would be an odd choice to let him go.

Agreed, we will see what happens with contracts moving forward. Given our impending cap crunch I can't see us not signing any of our forward prospects. You never know when one may surprise like Appelton. There will also be some additional slots open on the Moose next season anyhow, Roslovic will be a Jet full time and Petan wont be back one way or the other. Not sure what will happen with Deleo and Lipon. The Jets will need a press box player and Lipon might just fill that role next season.

We do still have Dano and Petan fore PB duties. Unless one or both are moved. I expect Poolman/Morrow to be PB guys as well. Though Poolman likely clears waivers.

Poolman is waiver exempt until he hits 60 NHL games.

That is true but I expect one of the two to move somewhere else. I am curious about how they structure the defense next season. I think there is value in bringing Toby back for an additional year to play in our top 4 to start. That would allow Niku to break in with say Kulikov (More defensive minded) on the bottom pairing. If he grabs Toby's spot early or later in the year great if not we have a proven defensive player that is still really good at retrieval and breakouts for our top 4. Morrow and Poolman are fine for the pressbox.

I still think from my number crunching that keeping Myers and Trouba is not a great idea going into next season. If one stays one should go. Maybe it makes us a slightly weaker team on the backend but it is beatifical long term and Myers has a lot of perceived value right now.

Mojo - Troubs
Kulikov - Buff
Niku - Poolman

Isn't terrible. Having Enstrom is alright I'm just not sure if he will come back next year.

I am fully expecting Myers to be moved. I am feeling more and more confident that Trouba will sign. There are a number of tells, his body language is great and even his comments now seem less like a mask and more genuine. I think he has come to really like and appreciate this market. I also think he is old enough now that he has a better idea of what he wants.

Good point about Toby, he may just choose to head back overseas. Ideally I would like a vet to play with Niku but Poolman could potentially work. He played well his last two playoff games.

Poolman would be a good partner for Niku as well as Niku is a freewheeler and Poolman's game is about being more responsible. With limited minutes they could benefit. Only trouble with that is more minutes for Buff which we don't want.

Toby's wife, whom he recently married, is a television host in Sweden. She is going through a battle with cancer and I think Toby will make the decision to head back to Sweden after this year to be closer to her. She can't really uproot and move to Canada so I think Toby will head to the SHL and sign with a team close there. He can definitely still make a career of it. If he decides to stay with us then he has my full support but I think it will be a difficult decision to pass up on being closer to her while still playing the game he loves in his native country.

Good point, he needs to do what is best for his family. I thought that I had heard that she had come over this season to see if that would work out but perhaps I am mistaken on that. In the end he has made more than enough money and if his wife still resides in Sweden permanently than the best course of action is to move home. I will miss his heady play and steadying presence on the back end.

I do agree that Poolman is an ideal partner for Niku based on style of play but I share your concerns with regards to just how much trust Maurice will place in them as a pairning.

I think Buff right now is in his ideal role on the team, playing against middling opposition with large amounts of PP time and the occasional PK shift (24 minutes a night), I certainly don't want him to play more than that.

I think Moe will need to finally utilize JoMo to his maximum next season (No idea why he has been so reluctant to this year). That to me means top ES, SH and secondary PP minutes to get his average to 23 to 24 minutes per game. He really only has one dimension left to really flesh out to be an elite allaround player. I don't see the org trying to hold him back anymore next season

Yeah I think the timing of MoJo's minutes jumping and him QBing the 2nd PP will line up really well with Vesalainen potentially coming in, whether that is this year or next. Vesa doesn't have Laine's shot but he has a great one-timer and is a PP specialist he just does it on the opposite side of the ice. MoJo is tailer made for the role of QB with Vesa on the point.

Agreed, I think Ves will offer a lot to the second unit when he sticks. I am pretty excited to see him over here next season as he brings a real unique set of tools to the table. I do wonder if the org is trying to keep MoJo's second contract down and that explains some of his usage. Maurice has alluded to envisioning Morrissey on the PP on a number of occasions. It would seem odd that he wouldn't follow through with that.

I think they want to keep him developing the defensive aspect of his game. Which is among some of the best in the league right now. If he keeps developing that and then we let him run wild offensively it could be very beneficial. But his next contract will kick us square in the cap.

Oh I agree with their model, they tend to want the players to develop from the foundation up (defense is the foundation). They did the same with Trouba (He did push back on it a bit). We have seen some flashes such as game three when JoMo is given the green light to go for it offensively and he looks fantastic. I think he will ultimately be a much better player for it.

That and we know Mojo can be a friggin beast when he gets going offensively. His draft +1 season in PA was just ridiculous. He was a force all over the ice when he was released.

Well, that news landed with a "thud".

I guess a lot of folks had "Team Playoff MVP" in their Logan Stanley prospect projection pool at the beginning of the season. I know I did... :sarcasm:
