I'm not looking at any stats, but I doubt the ECHL has a much better success rate at graduating players to the NHL than the CHL does. The ECHL is an outpost. They certainly have never had any NHL allstar players toiling down there whereas the CHL has future NHL stars littered throughout the league.

There's no doubt that the CHL graduates more players to the NHL than the ECHL. The same could be said for the CHL vs. the CIS. But, graduating players to the NHL and caliber of play are not the same thing. CIS and ECHL players are, on average, 4-5 years older than CHL players. An ECHL team would wipe the ice with a CHL team, and a good CIS team would handily beat a good CHL team. So, the caliber of play is higher in the ECHL and CIS than it is in the CHL, even though those leagues graduate fewer players to the NHL.

OHL approve the sale of the Belleville Bulls to Michael Andlauder and the relocation to Hamilton for the 15-16 season. The team will be renamed the Hamilton Bulldogs and play in the OHL east division.

The AHL has approved the sale of the current Hamilton Bulldogs to the Montreal Canadiens who will relocate them to St. John's, NL for next season. The AHL also approved the relocation of the Winnipeg Jets' AHL farm team in St. John's to the MTS Centre in Winnipeg for 15-16.

Hamilton goes to the OHL and joins Manchester, Worcester, Glens Falls, Norfolk and Oklahoma City as former AHL cities. Winnipeg is back on a temp basis until either Thunder Bay is complete or another city becomes an option. St. John's becomes the next Adirondack with the clock counting down two seasons until the franchise is relocated to a new building in Laval, QC that is expected to be ready for the fall 2017.

Jets GM Conference Call

Cheveldayoff-2014-300x168.jpg

Kevin Cheveldayoff conference call: Thanking city of St. John’s and people in the IceCaps organization. Outlining the most important reason to move the team closer to Winnipeg. Will they call the team Manitoba Moose? Is this a long term plan? How difficult will it be in terms of scheduling a second team in the MTS Centre? Challenge of having two teams on the same ice surface (wear and tear). What conditions/developments would make this short term or long term? Committed to more than one season? On the ease of calling up players. Was this decision accelerated due to other Western Conference teams moving their AHL teams closer to home. On the number of games they will play. Is there a history of an NHL/AHL team sharing a building? Does he have any insight as to whether there is an appetite for AHL hockey in Winnipeg this time? On the attendance projections for the team. Is Thunder Bay still on the radar? On confidence of making it work here.
