Has a high profile trade like this ever ended up with both teams arguably losing before this one?
How did Florida lose, they won the trade straight up. Tkachuk is having a career year in Florida, Huberdeau and Weegar have been total ass this year and their contracts don't start until next season for 8 more years. Yikes.

This poll result is hilarious.

Florida lost by getting a cheap 100 point player while ditching a 2nd pair dman and 50 point fwd aged 30 making a combined 18 million because their goalie couldnt make a save for 2 months?

Ah yes, noted defensive god Jonathan Huberdeau.

Point noted, but still both teams have regressed considerably, ok maybe I should reword my question, has a high profile trade like this ever happened before and both teams took a significant step backwards?

You could contest both teams arguably won. The decision to sign those contracts thereafter are choices, but the value Calgary got in return was very high. They could’ve and should’ve held onto Huberdeau and Weegar and flipped them at the TDL for a couple more 1sts.

...he says with his team out of a playoff spot  not much bite coming from the Panthers either

Tkachuk - 27 goals, 73 points

Huby + Weegs - 11 goals, 50 points

It's one season and Tkachuk forced Calgary to trade and they did well given the circumstances.

They did well?

They created a 2 year win window and the 1st one is gone.

Well would have been going for futures/younger/cheaper assets

Yes given the circumstances at the time of the trade, ie. Tkachuk wanting out and basically pulling a Kesler they got back 2 excellent players (even if Huberdeau had an off year to say the least and Florida's 1st in 25.
