if i was a betting man i would easily bet against that Hutson his simply not ready yet and theres no reason to rush him neither he will be in Laval next season just like they did with Mailloux
Has Hutson signed yet?

He sure will play is 9 games at minimum. and if he does well he will stay.
My guess is he's playing at least 45 games next year. if not more.
If Hutson ends up signing this offseason, there is no chance he plays that many games in the NHL next year. He's been unbelievable in the NCAA but will be in the AHL all year next season.

Training camp, exhibition games and then AHL all year. It will be a massive jump for him going from college to the pros and he will need time and patience at the pro level.

Absolutely zero reason to try to rush him

Makar did jumped in right away, in the playoff too..
Same age, Hutson have better stats....
Why can't Hutson not jump in the NHL right away.

I would also let Hutson develop in the AHL.
The bigger reason might be because of the abondance of LHD in MTL.
It certainly wouldn't hurt to let him develop one year there... Maybe bui;lding a chemistry with Reinbacher there too. No rush for them.

Good point there about playing him with Reinbacher for a full year.

He cannot sign yet. Boston University is still playing in the Frozen Four.

Yes, no need to rush Hutson or Reinbacher. The Habs have some young defensemen who will be waiver-eligible next season, while these two are exempt. Both need some development time anyway.

It would also be a good thing to provide experience/value to Barron (will have to go through waivers if he were to be sent down), Struble, etc...

There's no reason to think Hutson will be that good, that fast.... his skating apparently isn't on the same level. Makar is the exceptional player, not the guy we should expect because of a few common traits.

Maybe he surprises us, but you definitely don't trade Matheson thinking a guy still in college will take over his role.

At the very, very most, Hutson surprises, makes the team as a 3d pairing PP specialist, and maybe Barron gets traded for peanuts to make room for him...

Is this to show Makar’s comparative size?

Here’s Makar at the 2018 U20 WJC

Here’s Hutson at the 2024 U20 WJC

Makar was bigger, and he stayed in school after that U20, remember he started college late.

Hutson is very talented kid, but I wouldn’t use Makar as a measuring stick, he’s exceptionally good.

I don’t see zegras being moved, since his return he’s been our best player(which is consistent to the rest of the season)…. Only way is if we win the lottery then maybe…. But if a team wants him they are going to have to pay a premium

None of those silly Montreal offers
I think it would take a very good package to get him, probably including Montreal's 1st this year if it is them. But if he's seeming like a fit now then maybe you are right that he won't be moved

Agreed. I doubt that Matheson is going anywhere this off-season, barring an offer that blows the Habs away.
Even right now only the Sharks (and I guess NJD by necessity, but their plan was to have Nemec delay a year in the AHL before Hamilton got hurt) are giving as many minutes to young guys.

Shockingly, the Sharks and Montreal give up more expected goals than any other team in the league

Brutal for development to just send out 6 22 year olds to get caved in every night.
