Such an exciting time to be a Flames fan! With very few disappointing prospect, I'm curious to see what other think the team will look like when the dust settles.

Bennett-Monahan-Poirier
Gaudreau-Granlund-Colborne
Klimchuk-Jankowski-Smith/Carroll
Ferland-Reinhart-Smith/Carroll

Giordano-Brodie
Wotherspoon/Sieloff-smooth skating offensive defenseman
Wotherspoon/Sieloff-bone crusher with a good first pass

Gillies/McDonald

Defence still needs some work but I think we've got 4 lines that are very hard to contain in the making.

It all depends on what your definition of 'complete' is. This is how I could see the lineup looking in two seasons or so.

Gaudreau - Monahan - UFA/High end RW (Possibly even keep Hudler. He's playing well enough, and due to his style of play, he won't likely see a decline for a while yet. )
Glencross - Bennett - Poirier
Granlund - Backlund - Ferland
Bouma - Colborne - Jooris
Reinhart/Agostino

Giordano - Brodie
Wotherspoon - Green (UFA signing)
Sieloff - Russell

Hopefully Gillies/Ortio/McDonald, but Hiller/Ramo has been good enough.

Who do you suggest we trade Sven for?

I think he should only be moved in a package, if the right deal comes along, for a young RD. there's really no rush to do it and I think there's still time for Sven to earn a spot in the future top 9. This just how I see it, as it sits right now.

Forwards:

Gaudreau-Monahan- X
Ferland-Bennett-Poirier
Backlund -Jankowski-Colborne
Bouma-Knight/Arnold-Arnold/Knight/Jooris
Knight/Arnold/Jooris

Not all prospects, pan out obviously. But my assumption is we get a Defender for Baertschi..

Defense:

Giordano-Brodie
Russell-X
Wotherspoon-X

We still have a huge glairing need for defenders especially RHD. Wotherspoon Is the only realistic NHL defender we have in the farm. We also have a huge glairing need for physicality on the back-end. Maybe it's all the years of being spoilt of having Regehr..

I think Calgary won't sit idle with it's current make-up or projected prospect make up; I think we will make a big move at some time to get a high caliber veteran scorer for the first line (a-la Hossa).

I think in two years, it'll be something along the lines of:

X (high caliber scorer, around the age of 27) - Monahan - Poirier
Gaudreau - Bennett - Hudler (we will keep him)
Ferland - Colborne - Granlund
Bouma - Knight - Jooris

As you can see, I think Calgary uses a healthy Backlund and perhaps someone like Klimmer to get themselves that big scoring threat once this rebuild is finally ready to jump off. Jankowski will still be developing somewhere, so the prospect cup-board will be far from empty.

As for the D, I'm uncertain, I really like the make up now, outside of the lack of foot-speed on the bottom... But I think Wotherspoon will be up, maybe even Sieloff... Plus I think there are three age-fitting Dmen that Calgary will go after hard in the off-season: Franson, Staal & Petry. All three would automatically make the middle pair a lot better, and would create incredible depth.

I think Treliving will make a big splash within the next year to bring in an established scorer or shutdown D around 23-26. Probably 1 via trade and 1 via UFA.

(Trade examples: ROR or Gormley/Bogosian - UFA signing examples: Staal / Franson)

But when the dust settles (3 years?) I think it will look something like this:

Gaudreau - Monahan - _____
Granlund - Bennett - Poirier
Ferland - Backlund - Colborne
Bouma - Jooris - Smith

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - _____
Wotherspoon - Sieloff

Ramo
Ortio

I think the Flames have a legit dilemma at forward..

C's: Monahan, Bennett, Granlund, Jankowski, Backlund , Arnold, Knight, Jooris then theres still Reinhart, and whoever we draft.

W's Gaudreau, Baertschi, Poirier, Agostino, Hanowski, Klimchuk, Ferland, Van Brabant, Smith, Carroll, Elson, Harrison

The ones bolded IMO have legit NHL Potential.

I’d bold Van Brabant in there as well.

Depth and trades!

Also, we don't know who could surprise us (both negatively and positively). But I do suspect to see some prospects moved to bring in established help in a 23 - 26 age range.

I know I am missing alot of guys like Granlund, Ferland, Reinhart, Beartschi, Sieloff... etc, but I just don't feel like they will be here when this team is a contender.

I'd actually like to see Bennett start on the wing to begin his NHL career to ease him into the top flight first without giving him too much responsibilities in the defensive zone - faceoffs, chasing and winning loose pucks, etc - while he'd still be expected to backcheck and be physical. With our center depth, it makes more sense to give him top 6 minutes on the wing as opposed to being limited behind Monahan and Backlund, as well as Granlund.

Maybe convert him back to center when he's able to take over Backlund, which I doubt will happen unless Backlund is traded out. Add in Jankowski and you might also want to see Granlund on the wing to keep them all in the top 9. Happy happy things to think about!

Sven is basically worthless imo, no real NHL potential, or at least not to the level at which he was advertised. If he hadn't ****ed up he would've been in this league in 2012-13. I am firmly calling him a bust at this point.

And before everyone slams me and says he has been a 0.5ppg player in his last few seasons, you know damn well what I mean. Every year he looks worse, and every year he fails to stick in the NHL. The only reason he's here now is because the management sees this as being do-or-die for him. If he fails to produce adequately and be an impact player, he's not going to be resigned for 15-16. At best they might be able to trade him for a B prospect, but we've got plenty of those, so it'd be pointless.
