I guess I’m just not understanding why Maurice should be a dick to the reporterI’m talking around here.
Probably because everyone should know he has no idea how long Wheeler will be out and only a moron would think he does.I guess I’m just not understanding why Maurice should be a dick to the reporter
Gonna have to agree to disagree here. The sports reporters in this city, while almost all generally terrible, are just doing their jobs trying to get an update on a Jets player, and given that Maurice is often in contact with Jets doctors and in contact with the media, it makes sense to ask him.Probably because everyone should know he has no idea how long Wheeler will be out and only a moron would think he does.
But Maurice can’t give more than he has been told. And when a player is getting multiple medical opinions it should be obvious he wouldn’t know how long he will be out.Gonna have to agree to disagree here. Beaulieu as a forward...
I mean, at what point does a GM step in and intervene.
Edit: This may be just for practice purposes.
I’m not sure what point you are trying to make with all of this. That Beaulieu is better than Perfetti? That the Jets should always run 11 F and 7D?One of my favourite subjects is revisionist history. It's important when we look back at this year that we dissect it properly.
Jets started out 0-2 in Cali with Scheif missing one game, and Svetchnikov missing one game, and Perfetti getting in both.
Game 3 in Minny Scheif and Wheeler are on protocol and Beaulieu get the call while Perfetti is sat out. Jets lose in OT, but should have won this one (if anyone remembers the offside that cost the EN goal).
Beaulieu plays in games 4 to 7 instead of Perfetti. Toninato also gets in the lineup, in place of Wheeler. All wins.
Game 8 Wheeler comes back, Nash comes out, loss in OT in San Jose.
Game 9 Scheifele comes back, Vesalainen comes out, Jets win in OT at home vs. Dallas
Game 10 Jets rout the Hawks.
Jets record with Beaulieu in the lineup after 10 games, 6-0-2.
Game 11 Jets lose a tough game to NY Isles, every one is off it seems.
Beaulieu sits for the next 13 games. Jets record 6-5-2. Special teams are a factor in several of those losses.
Game 25-27 Pionk is out, Beaulieu draws in, Jets go 1-1-1. Carolina game was a dud, 2 shorthanded goals the difference. No special teams GA vs. Kraken or Canucks.
So the Jets record by math is 6-1-2 with 7 d. 0-2 with Perfetti. 7-2-3 with Beaulieu in the lineup. 6-8-2 with 12 forward, 6 d.
So to me, the question should be asked:One of my favourite subjects is revisionist history. It's important when we look back at this year that we dissect it properly.

I'll give you credit you really like Beaulieu but to me you are missing the fact we were winning games and playing great 5 on 5 when Scheifele and Wheeler were out of the lineup and when they were on the 3rd line with Lowry . That was because during that time we were distributing the ice times of all our lines really well . Then for reasons only known to Maurice Svech gets taken off the #1 line and Wheeler is put there , Scheifele is moved to the 2nd line and both Wheeler and Scheifele's ice times start getting higher and higher. Then Scheifele, Wheeler and Connor gets put back together because we are losing games and Dubois and Ehlers's ice times both go down and Svech is 4th line eating popcorn. I don't have a problem with Scheifele, Wheeler and Connor as a line, they can be very good but i think if we distributed our ice times more evenly this is a much better team and playing Beaulieu or not has very little to do with team success or failure, to me anyway. One of my favourite subjects is revisionist history. It's important when we look back at this year that we dissect it properly.

Beaulieu sits for all but 1 of the next 13 games (edit/correction: He played in the November 26th Minnesota Wild 7-1 rout of the Jets). Jets record over that span 6-5-2 (6-4-2 without Beaulieu). Special teams are a factor in several of those losses.
Game 25-27 Pionk is out, Beaulieu draws in, Jets go 1-1-1. Carolina game was a dud, 2 shorthanded goals the difference. No special teams GA vs. Kraken or Canucks.

For sure, a player like Beaulieu is better adapted to the passive shooting gallery that is our PK - that does not mean it’s sustainable
Wheeler has played 758 games for the Jets, leaving 56 games missed. The correlation between Wheeler not playing and that being the cause of the Jets losing any of those games is random and involves many more variables than Wheeler simply not playing. The attempts to simplify this and draw some sort of direct or indirect correlation is ridiculous.
I remember this same idiotic discussion with Enstrom.
X caused Y therefore X was the only cause of Y.
Of course.
The team seems to band together and play hard when they're expected to lose (key players injured, defence gutted, etc.) and mail it in when they're at full compliment and expected to win. Seems to be a team psychology thing. I don't attribute it to individual players.
It seems like Maurice tightens up his system when a star or two are injured - much less freewheeling so it reduces high danger chances on both sides - our first playoff year was like that - simple hockey because of injuries and then we opened it up whe n everyone was healthy for the playoffs and got poundedI suspect that all teams do that - with varying degrees of success.
No call-up from the Moose today b/c Covid protocols, according to Mitch Clinton.
????
What Covid protocol would that be?
Players have been going up and down freely all season, no?
You would think an MRI would show any soft tissue damage, which would include tears, or partial tears of ligaments etc. I did read about a tennis player who had a tear in the rotator cuff in the shoulder, and this was missed by a couple MRI's or they were not diagnosed properly. This player went to see a 3rd surgeon who was well respected shoulder specialist, and he did find a very small tear with his MRI, and fixed the problem with surgery. This very small tear, was missed by 2 others.
It could be that Wheeler was told there was not tears etc, and he would just have to rehab, but he may feel he wants a second opinion to make sure. Maybe if he has a torn ligament he would want it fixed right the first time with surgery. Could also be, as mentioned, he was told he has a torn ligament and needs surgery, but wants it confirmed "for sure." I think that's the way I'd go on this type of situation.
I mean it is easier to practice as a forward when you need an extra one right? And correct me if I am wrong but the Jets have a better record this year with 7 d, and 11 forwards (the Cooper TB successful model) than with the standard model.
No surgery for Wheeler. Great news.
