This is such a random trade, but since we have the goalie depth it doesn't bother me.

All the same though, I always respect goalies who can handle the puck well. When Wedge was drafted I had visions of him succeeding Marty and giving the NHL fits for another decade over a Devils goalie who could roam outside the crease and spring the breakout.

Well if he turns into that with the Yotes, at least he'd be in a different Conference so we won't have to deal with him often.

I knew Bratt was going to make people overvalue late round draft picks even more than they already previously overvalued late round draft picks, which is quite a task.

Right. From now on, I bet many GMs out there with 5th-6th rounders would be more diligent with their picks, looking for that next Jesper Bratt Diamond-in-the-rough.

Why didn't he really got another look up here? I know his first game was a shutout and didn't he have back to back? And the third game he kept us in it against the caps? After that I don't remember him starting again why
He almost had back to back shutouts. He lost his second shutout in OT, because our offense was a disgrace.

He was only called up because Kinkaid was stinking up the joint at the time, and Yann Danis was our backup. This was when Cory was briefly injured at the end of the 15-16 season. Kinkaid had a poor year that season. It looked like Wedgewood had a chance to take the backup job from him last year in camp, but Kinkaid outplayed him in the preseason and had a pretty good regular season last year too. There was no way to call Wedgewood back up for the regular season, unless one of the two goalie's got injured or we waived Kinkaid.

Wedgewood wasn't very good in the AHL, up until that season.

This is such a random trade, but since we have the goalie depth it doesn't bother me.

I was pretty high on him, up until he turned pro and had a couple pretty poor seasons in the AHL. He looked good in his 4 game NHL stint, but Scott Clemmensen had an identical 4 games in the 03-04 season, where he put together a couple shutouts and had a save percentage of damn near 96% that year. Only, his appearances were sporadic and not consecutively in the same week, like Wedgewood's.

It's not like Bratt's been the only late round pick to ever make a splash. One of the few that has done it at 19 for sure. But for every Bratt or Datsyuk or (cough) Lundqvist there's a thousand AHL filler/marginal NHL player/washout picks from the late rounds.

GM's will only be more dilligent trying not to let those kind of talents slip into the 6th round to start with.

Perused through social media comments by Devils fans just before.

Consensus is that this was a heinous trade by Ray.
Wedge will become the next Hasek in Zona.

More the point is extra draft picks give Ray a chance to move around the draft if he wants, or potentially have more ammo in trade packages.

Arizona just waived their goalie from last night. I think wedge be their backup

I'm pretty sure Wedgewood has several more days when they can demote him without going through waivers. If Domingue passes, they can decide between the two when Raanta is healthy.

I believe they are done with Domingue. Read a lot of comments that he will be on the outside looking in when Raanta comes back.

Makeses sense as he has been as bad as it gets.

I feel bad for him. I don't think he's as bad as he's been the last few weeks.

He's been Hedberg-ed out in Arizona. He's a good back-up, but he's been playing way over his head, has shattered his confidence, and the coaches keep feeding him games because the alternative is even worse.

Remember how awful Hedberg looked when he had to play 10 straight games in that lockout shortened season? It was almost a mirror image of Domingue last night.

Wonder if MacLean had any influence in Arizona bringing him in. Think he has the potential to make a decent starting goalie and at the minimum a backup.
