not a fan of the trade, we need our goalie prospects desperately. now we have just macblack and i guess appleby (though this is a good opportunity for him)

i mean just a 5th? :(

not gonna lie, i had a mancrush on wedge and also loved his mask

Don't forget Gillies Senn, the mysterious Swiss overager.

And all he has to do it walk down the hall.

That must be so weird to wake up one morning and essentially be told you're moving from Binghamton to Tucson.

That's a great return for an AHL goaltender.
Tucson is beautiful, so he upgraded big. And he gets to actually play.

Good deal for both teams and Wedge!

Jesper Bratt was a 6th rounder.

Just saying before you jump off the bridge. :naughty:

Why didn't he really got another look up here? I know his first game was a shutout and didn't he have back to back? And the third game he kept us in it against the caps? After that I don't remember him starting again why

Cormier too behind Blackwood and Appleby. They both have shown they are at least AHL level goalies. Not saying Wedge didn’t but there’s no need to have Appleby in the AHL again.

Wedgewood was just an extra body at this point, I'm not even sure he would've remained with the team if they didn't need him to satisfy the expansion draft requirements.

While a lot can happen, it looks like the goalie position is set for a while.

2017-18: Schneider and Kinkaid | Blackwood and Appleby
2o18-19: Schneider and Kinkaid | Blackwood and Appleby | Cormier
2019-20: Schneider and Blackwood | Senn and Cormier

Because Cory got healthy again that spring and Kinkaid had a bounceback season last year. Plus, Wedge has been hurt a lot throughout his pro career. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a solid goalie but the way things played out it makes sense that he didn't get another chance with the Devils.

It sucks to see him go, but you gotta feel happy for him. He'll get a legitimate shot at a real NHL career in Arizona.

Wait, wouldn't he have had to clear waivers again to go back with Schneider getting re activated? So, the Yotes would've had first dibs at him if so, but traded a pick away for him...

Wasn't he waived less than 30 days ago?

No, he was an emergency call up. Does not have to go through waivers to be sent back down.

It's close. That's the rule then- 30 days?
From capfriendly:

A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games. CBA Reference 13.2(b)

He may still be waiver exempt.

He's not waiver exempt but since he was on emergency recall he doesn't have to go through waivers this time.

It was nice of the Devils to trade him to the opposition and let him fly back with them instead of consummating this a day or two later lol.

Yeah there’s just not really any room for him at this point. I honestly think Appleby deserves a shot and with Wedge going it gives Appleby the backup spot in Bingo.

Not a huge Appelby fan (he didn't exactly do great last year in Albany) but you could do worse for an AHL backup I suppose. And like others have said Wedge shouldn't be the backup and Blackwood should start.
