Top line for the Canadians definitely controlling the play, Chara off for roughing, this should be an interesting PP.

That was the best 2nd period ive seen in a long time. That was an absolutely amazing miracle save from Brodeur.

Was Chara just out for that entire PK and the 1 minute aftwerwards? That was like a 3 minute shift for Chara I think. Stupid call on him, as the ref missed his second high stick of the period, and that is at least the second totally bothced player/call penalty that was correct due to something else happeneing.

Gagne faked NOTHING, that was a BRUTAL cheapshot. The penalty shot call was correct though.

I don't like this game being this close going into the third. But Canada sure picked up the pace late in the second, hopefully they can carry it over.

First ref in this tournament who has some balls!

That hit on Gagne was either 2+10 or 5+game according to IIHF rules, it's really a judgement call. So he didn't really botch that call, he just didn't see it as bad as some of posters here. And the push itself was really soft from what I saw, Gagne was in really bad balance because otherwise he wouldn't have gone to the boards as hard.

So ref saw the push as pretty soft and thus gave him only 2+10

Otherwise some solid reffing, Smyth should have gotten 2+10 or 5+game for that roundhouse highstick on Zednik which made him bleed according to IIHF rules but apparently he didn't see it.

So Canadians can't whine about that 2+10 penalty on Vydarney since Smyth got away without a penalty which should have been 2+10 or 5+game.

Entertaining game thus far. Canada playing like a team for once, but Slovakia is no slouch either. Their players must be covered in oil the way they slip by our D on the long pass.

The shot on Gagne after the goal was brutal, definitely should have been 5 and a game. On the other hand, how the Hell did Chara get sent off at the end of the second for Zed's penalty? That's a tough break for Slovakia.

Did you know that Slovakia has a choice (under IIHF rules) to take a powerplay or a penalty shot on the Palffy foul?
I would take the penalty shot every time...
Canada should send a video replay in om the cheapshot....that Slovak should have gotten a major penalty...there is no such thing as a misconduct penalty on that play...it should have been a major penalty. Nothinh less! :propeller

The ref didn't call 2 + 10, he called 10. It was ABSURD. Hits to players 2 seconds after the score, from behind is the WORST type of hit you can make, and needs to be penalized SEVERELY.

As for calling the refereeing solid, that is absurd. As you complain, the ref missed the high stick by Heatley I think (not Smyth), which was an obvious penalty, and then the silly call on Chara, which realy should have been a high sticking penalty on some other Slovak. He also called Hossa for elbowing in the first that didn't happen, while missing a slash by Zednik I think. He is OUT OF HIS LEAGUE, and is NOT capable of refereeing world class players playing at the pace of this game. He has botched (but fortunately gotten right 2 calls), and completely botched the hit on Gagne. If this was the NHL, not calling a penalty on a hit like that would lead to carnage on the ice, you just gotta call that stuff.

So then Slovakia played with too many men on the ice for a full 2 minutes without a call. Or maybe the referee waved off the penalty because we scored (but they shouldn't do that since the penalty occured after the puck was in). We didn't get a PP, which is abusrd.

Maybe you should read the rules before making comments like that?

That's an error. Canada did not get a PP after Gagne's goal.

Pepper: :dunce: Amazing you would slather the board with your mindboggling tripe when you don't even know the actual call that was made. "Otherwise some solid reffing"..(???) Maybe let the people who actually have funtioning televisions decide on the calls/reffing.

Whatever your box score says is wrong. He didn't serve 2 and there was no powerplay.

Brodie. is friggin unreal! :handclap: : You gotta' be lucky to be good! Draper cost us the lead w/ the bad elbowing Penalty. It was only a matter of time w/ 5 on 3 P.P. :shakehead . Lots of lumber w/ the 2 line pass in effect.

Jovanovski screws up two chances to clear the puck on the 5 on 3 and then tries to block a shot that the defenceman hadn't even begun to commit to.

WTF is Habsheid thinking putting this clown out there in that situation?

Staple Jovo's ass to the bench and give your team a chance Marc.
