I'm not sure that's going to be such a great contract tbh.

It depends. He's 25 now. The contract is for what. Six years. Actually seven. So, it's a bit of a risk. I don't like going that deep on players. But he's young. So, they're investing long-term on Zaitsev's talent. He had a good first year and he's got experience. I'd rather go long-term on him or another similar young player that age than go 6-7 years for Shattenkirk.

Have no issues signing young players to deals that end when they are 31-33. I do have issues signing 31-33 year old players to 4 and 5 year deals. The deal the Russian kid got today is perfect for them and the player both in dollars and length.

I remember the last time we all got excited about a young guy whose name also ended in "..achev".

Why are there two guys with the same name? :P

Mods can delete.

Easy way to remember which is which. "our" Tkachyov plays for Admiral Vladivostok. The abbreviation for that is AV. He will play for AV (Until he is scratched for Tanner Glass, of course)

There's also a couple Sebastien Ahos and there were two Petr Sykoras in the NHL for a while.

Exactly.

I don't see the issue with it. It's not like he's 30-31 and got this deal. This deal expires at age 32. Assuming he stays healthy, that's not a bad deal at all.

There were 2 players named Stephane Richer in the NHL at the same time as well.

For those that follow the WHL, one that has annoyed me all season is Sergey Zborovsky and Zachary Zborosky. Regina had to play Lethbridge last round, and it was driving me nuts, lol.

P.S. - Zborosky (a Candian BTW...not Russian) is an undrafted 21 year old that bloomed late. 41 goals this season. I expect to see him at some camps and end up with and AHL contract somewhere.

You don't think he has a shot at an AHL contract somewhere? He absolutely does. I know he was on the Rangers' Traverse roster last year...but can't remember how he performed, or if he even played. Anyway, NHL scouting rated him very favorably when he was draft eligible, but for some reason he was never drafted. He's been a bit over PPG in the W the last couple of seasons. He'll play Pro Hockey somewhere.

No opinion on on him as a player. Don't want to deal with Z-bros names.

Lol, I totally misread the intent of your post. Yeah...wouldn't want to have to deal with Sam calling games with both Zach and Sergey on our team. I'm sure Sam would constantly explain that they're two separate players...but I could do without it.

Zak Zborosky also attended NYR's developmental camp last summer and didn't look too bad out there. Had a couple of goals in the scrimmages, as well. He's a righty, too!!
