Clowe would be fine here but not for much. Also, he's on the decline so not worth a big investment. He had his time as a second tier power forward in this league.

Larry Brooks wrote the Rangers would swap Boyle and a 3rd to rent Clowe but that's about it. He made a mistake with the conditions of the Columbus pick. Its on the column which is only available on the mobile Post website today. The Rangers don't keep the 3rd from Columbus if they reach the Cup final which isn't happening. http://m.nypost.com/f/mobile/sports/islanders/sid_loses_teeth_isles_just_lose_6HvL2L6NY5Np6GApdyyNTI

so they have 4- 3rds next yr then? That's pretty good if so.

I would hope they dont buy rentals for picks, make hockey trades with guys like Pyatt, Boyle, Gilroy, Eminger, may not get alot back change some personnel

Gaborik is the interesting one. They may find a fit

I like Clowes toughness. However on a team unable to compete with the speed of
MTL
OTT
TOR
WPG in their own conference can't see what exactly be will bring to the table. Unless we are going for some kind of record for most players with less than 1 or 2 goals , in that case yeah let's trade away

From your lips to gods ears. Can we please gr more faster , more tougher and more skilled . More younger and more of a puck pressure , counter transition game eater than an endless cycling to oblivion team

Would the Rangers take impending free agent winger Ryan Clowe from San Jose in exchange for, say, Brian Boyle and a third-rounder? Sure thing. But would the Sharks make that deal? Extremely unlikely. And why in the world would Rangers general manager Glen Sather be willing to yield more than that when not even Hans Brinker, let alone Clowe, could close all the holes springing in the Blueshirts’ dike?

The Rangers don’t have a first rounder in the upcoming draft— sent to Columbus in the Rick Nash deal—but have a couple of extra thirds coming their way, one from Florida for Wojtek Wolski, another from Nashville in a selection swap last year.

The Blueshirts will forfeit their third to Columbus as part of the third to Columbus as part of the Nash deal if they reach the — ahem—conference finals.

The condition is

The Blue Jackets also are sending a conditional third-round pick and minor league defenseman Steven Delisle to the Rangers. The third-rounder would return to Columbus if the Rangers reach the Stanley Cup Final.

For the record, I want to play less for Clowe than Brooks.
3rd is the most I'd go. Need someone to put the puck in the net and he ain't providing it.

Clowe makes this team tougher; that's good if this team was looking comfortable for the playoffs, and scoring goals. They're not however.

Doesn't make sense for the situation.

Clowe hate is ridiculous.

For the right price he is a perfect fit. See all these "moar jam" posts. Yea, let's just keep adding soft perimeter players. "Moar goalz". It's worked well so far.

Everyone cries for a player to combat someone like Chris Niel. Well Ryane Clowe is that exact type of player. His best days as a top6 power LW may be behind him but he is still a good physical tough SOB of a player. The key here is not to overpay. No way Boyle and a 3rd gets Clowe.

If by he's the perfect fit because he cant score any goals like the rest of the bottom 6 then you are correct.

he has a NMC so he could force his way to a team like Iginla did for less

Handzus didn't work out in SJ, and they need a guy, along with Chicago to go up against the Kopitar's and Koivu's of the west. Big, checking line centers.

Clowe would have fit this team a couple years ago, but it's the same as last year when people wanted Morrow he seems to be running out of gas. As a pure rental for a cheap price? Sure why not. But he wants an extension, that is a big no for me.

Clowe is not just a fighter.

Rangers all along wanted a guy that wasn't just a fighter, otherwise they could have snatched up the numerous guys that could have been had for nothing on waivers.

As long as its not overpayment there is no harm here. Impemding FA, value down due to a bad season. Does a bad season define a player?

One thing is certain. This is the softest Rangers team EVER! There was a need for toughness from day one with the losses of Dubi and Prust. Clowe replaces that.

Alot of people chiming in about footspeed here. There is plenty of skaters on this team to offset one or two of the slower skaters.

A 3rd line winger isn't putting this team over the top so I wouldn't want to give up any serious assets. If this team was winning games and climbing then different story, but I wouldn't give up much just to most likely get blown out in the first round anyway.

Is Clowe going to Tough the puck in the net ? ASHAM is tough , can shoot and is about as good a skater as Clowe is at this point and the coach won't play him now or want him to fight .
I like Clowe but a bad fit .
YOUNGER
FASTER
HUNGRIER
BETTER SHOOTERS AND THEN DEF TOUGHER .
Right now as soft as NYR are they lack players who can move away from the wall and finish plays in the slot . Clowes Whopoing zero goals aren't helping the team with worst GF in the league .
Scrap this year and don't look back . Total roster overhauls of good teams can be disastrous but THIS ISN'T A GOOD TEAM

Plenty of guy that can score goals on this team. They just need to score. System or players?

Clowe is addressing a different need. Add in an area that seriously lacks. Could balance things a bit. Lets face it...This is a disaster already. Can't see it getting worse with a character addition to the room.
