Lol good luck getting Pavelski for that

The Sharks would be thrilled if they could get a prospect like Brown and a 1st for a 33YR old Pavelski.

Pavelski also has a NTC where he submits a list of 3 teams he can be traded to, which limits the return Wilson would be able to get for him.

Having said all this, we're not one of those 3 teams, so discussing Pavelski seems like a waste of time.

Wow, 3 teams. That's crazy.

Turris has quietly moved into our top scorer so far in the season given he is playing with Dzingel & Smith which must say something about his skill & ability to put up pts almost by himself. He is very under rated on here IMO & if we could ever get another big tough top 6 scoring forward to help him would really help.

As much as I'd like to see us package our defensive depth (Wideman + ) into a top-6, I've done the research, there isn't much of anyone available.

Since Wideman is UFA at season's end, the best bet to maximize return involves:

1. A player who is also a pending UFA, mitigating the risk for the trade partner and maximizing the possible return.
2. A team who is struggling in the standings, necessitating a move
3. A team lacking RHD but with surplus forwards (a team is more willing to lose value when trading from a position of strength to weakness, especially if there are injuries)
4. A team with cap issues since Wideman is cheap.

No single player I found met all the criteria. As it stands, these are our options, as far as I can find:

Joe Colborne (not top-6, not playing well, not a good player, soft.)
Jannik Hansen (Quality player, Sharks don't need Wideman, expensive)
Mark Letestu (Oilers need forwards as much as Sens)
Jokinen (see above)
Michael Grabner (Cheap and had an amazing year, NYR doesn't need Wideman, bad fit.)
Vermette (Ducks are playing well, but just lost a bunch of 'D", probably can't spare vermette)
Eller (Caps aren't bad, don't really need Wideman, crazy salary, would have to add something significant.)
Sceviour (dream acquisition, won't happen, would cost)
Lee Stempniak (CAR needs forwards more than us. Not doing poorly, doesn't need Wideman.)
Roussel (Perfect acquisition. Won't ever happen. Dallas doesn't need wideman and can't spare Roussel)
Benoit Pouliot (We'd be helping out the Sabres more than ourselves, I know Ottawa had interest before. Could work)
MPS. (Boucher would love him. Can play up-down the roster. I think St. Louis would be adding)

Might as well keep him. Even if we flip him for a forward, we'd probably still need to pick up a spare "d" at the deadline anyway.

As far as RFA's go:

Mike Ferland would be an interesting piece, I think he is being underused in Calgary.
Shane Prince. LOL
Jordan Martinook. I think he is underused, Apparently on the outs in Arizona right now.
Drake Caggiula. Not fitting in with Edmonton, scoring forward signed as collegiate UFA.

Why? Neither fills a need or makes us better.
I think at this point we have a need for a third line tweener (I didn't mean only top top choice for a trade. My top choice would be Connor mcdavid). If Boucher likes a guy that he trusts to play I say go acquire him

I don't know how long smith is out though

If Smith is out for a while alongside MacArthur and Ryan, I think we need someone. Brown can go back to Juniors once White is back.

I'd love to have Nick Paul slide in, but I have no idea how ready he is.

Ferland would be nice, but I bet he'd cost a lot.

Wideman for Matt Calvert (CBJ is loaded up front, could use D depth)
Wideman for Austin Watson (Stacked in the top 4, bottom pair is alright but Emilen, Irwin and Weber aren't even close to as mobile as Wideman, although they do have Girard who might stay)
Wideman for Mchael Grabner (Would work for both sides)
W1deman for Magnus Paajarvi (Wideman is a hometown boy, another good fit for both sides)
Widema for Nic Petan (Petan seems to have fallen out of favored with all the skilled forwards in WPG, they could use D depth, he'd be a great fit)

Keep in mind there is some + to be added in some of these trades, not much though.

Man would grabner be nice even if the rangers are a bottom feeder he would most likely get moved somewhere else.

no I think Paul will play, I think an NHL structured game is better for him.

Really though, we need a top 6 bad...just not sure if we can do it.

Ryan Smith Mac out is pretty brutal, hopefully White is ready soon.

In a year or 2 he should be ready to stay up... I am talking about a fill in... but I understand the doubt :)

Agreed about him being able to stay up in 2 years, but this isn't 2 years from now. He looks like he's struggling at the AHL level right now... which is totally understandable, considering it's his first taste of real pro hockey - lots of kids, even blue chip prospects, sometimes need a few months to get up to speed and learn what works and what doesn't as a professional - but he's simply not in a position to take top-6 NHL minutes right now. It would be highly irresponsible of us to set him up to fail like that.

Giving a kid that much responsibility before he's ready for it can destroy his confidence. He clearly hasn't yet caught up to the AHL level, why double-down on him right now, even as a fill-in? Let the kid find his footing against journeymen minor-leaguers first before throwing him to the wolves.

white has a target date November 1st for Belleville, so if he can shake off his rust and join us asap it would still mean 4 games of question marks

this is going to sound really weird but it all depends on boros health, if he is healthy we may run 11-7 or we may trade a dman like wideman for a 3rd liner or wideman+ for a 2nd liner
