I actually like this move.
It doesn't mess with the chemistry of this team, or take anyone's spot. He'll add some more depth to this team or to the AHL.

Vrbata not traded.
Guess Chayka wouldn't move off of the 2nd. I'd rather pay that and unload Jyrki to get Lazar (Who we can hold onto for a long time).

Kind of wondering if the Flames do anything else; like anything else on call here?
If the pick on Lazar is 2017, we potentially don't have our 2,3rd or 5th.

If someone told me we got Kotska (depth), Lazar, and Mike Stone for a second and third in a weak draft i would super happy.

I really do think Lazar has a chance to be a solid bottom 6 forward for a long time. We can have him cheap too.

Plus he might get exposed which could be interesting to Vegas. I think the Flames value Brett Kulak and would prefer Kulak to a second. Maybe Lazar will be a decoy for Las Vegas.

Also, this trade doesn't scream GM in trouble.

Love it.

Wideman is still serviceable as a depth defenseman.

No sense in paying to get rid of him then paying again to get ploff insurance.

Yeah, with Kevin gone having Wideman as a warm body is potentially useful. Its important to keep in mind even if we have to put him back in the lineup we can shelter him more now with Stone/Bartkowski.

So overall the Flames traded

2017 2nd round pick
2017 3rd round pick
2018 5th round pick
Jyrki Jokipakka

for

Curtis Lazar
Michael Stone
Mike Kostka

& signed Bartkowski

I'd say the Flames did pretty well overall the past week or so.

I know it's likely that we try to sign Stone and lose the 5th, but wasn't it conditional?

Tre's interview was interesting.
Sees Stone and Lazar as long term pieces. Can anyone else read into him being protected or Flames using assets to protect him?

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't picks usually used as bargaining chips to convince expansion teams not to take a team's players.

If so, I can't see Treliving burning a 1st and leaving us with a 4th, 6th, and 7th in the draft
