Plus he didn't overpay any vets or over the hill ufas
Our "worst" contracts are all players under 21.
Lol like is that really a bad thing?
Kind of hard to overpay for vets when you have no cap to do it, and you using LTIR and are 2 players shy on the roster to allow for injuries. Interesting times coming with this Marner team friendly signing.

You act is if winning a playoff round is a given. Pretty arrogant.

In all likelihood, Boston beats Toronto in game 7 next year again. Or 6.
Sure, it is possible, but not in all likelihood. - That is arrogent. Host is a great team though, it will be an honor to play them.

You guys can knock Dubas all you want, but he got all 3 star forwards signed to term and acquired two top 4 d in 12 months. Oh and signed Tavares too. What a loser.

But still no #1 defenseman and no depth. Can't win championships without either.

Half the cap is spent on 4 forwards.

Nylander is by definition not on all-star.

Muzzin and Barrie are on expiring contracts.

He has made some good trades, especially in dealing Zaitsev (although re-signing Ceci to the same deal is pretty stupid). But he overpaid all 4 forwards and is handcuffed to re-signk key players (Rielly, Andersen) in the future.
Is that the Swedish translation of Nylander?

Oh it's you lolol
No it's not hard to over pay vets if you know what you're doing . We have a nice young team that'll grow together.
Again. Ex-"leaf" fan. Go worry about whatever your new team you decide to cheer on this year.
Keep jumping from team to team like a lost little lamb lol

Marcel Dionne played for free his entire career wtf how did they get away with it

Not sure what you mean. Everybody got paid. But there is a difference between getting paid and getting paid like you won something The Leafs are rewarding/overpaying people before they won.

I'm glad the Leafs are paying young players for what they might do in future for the Leafs instead of paying old players for what they did in the past with other teams.

I'm sick of seeing the likes of Owen Nolan, Eric Lindros, Brian Leetch and Ron Francis long past their prime. Give me the best years of the young guys they have now and then move on from them too as time goes by.

So its not an overpayment. Check the otha suckas in this league (players) getting the buck. Hayes, and some otha suckas. Not scoring 90 points. But 49.

The cap will go to 100. Marner is here for life. Legendary dirt. Dubas and Marner made it bigg tyme baby and others might be jelious. Toronto will score like 399 goals this season. This team is offensively pure hell. What a club, to celebrate and smoke on that real hard.

And they finna announce the realest legendary captain soon. This is so legendary momentum.

Respect...Biznitches!!!! SUDBURY....REPRESENT!!!

translation.....pretty fly for a white guy.

What will you say at the start of the next season, I wonder... And then, when the time comes to extend Rielly.

@Sheppy regarding your post:

Marchand seems to be in his, Bergeron just had a career year, and Pastrnak at 6.6 million is a better deal than any Leafs player.

100 points in 79 games for Marchand last year, 85 in 68 the year before that.

79 in 65 for Bergeron this past season.

81 in 66 for Pastrnak

Krejci also had a career year.

Not bad for dinosaurs.

Not bad at all. I agree with you. I think the way the Bruins have been able to or will sign their recent stars (Pasta, McAvoy) is a direct correlation to how they were able to build their core and the money they allocated for them once upon a time.

The Bruins have won a Cup in the modern NHL. They are always in the playoffs. Their core (Chara, Bergy, Marchand, etc) were all signed when the league was under a different landscape. Agree?

When a team has their core in place, suddenly any new star players that come in can be put under a particular bar, for example, Neely could've told Pasta, f*** you, you are not signing over what Bergy and these guys make, followed by throwing a water bottle super fast lmao. Pasta would agree, because it's their culture they've developed, their core was set. He doesn't wanna piss off guys like Marchand, Bergy and Chara.

For the Leafs, if we're being honest, they've been shit for a long time. Their core only started recently, with the drafting of Rielly, Nylander, Marner, and then was finished with the lottery pick, Matthews. They saw an opportunity to add to Centre depth and they signed JT. This is all under a different time, a different landscape. But also, the Leafs didn't have an existing core in place. They had guys like Komarov, Bozak, JvR, etc. You can't tell these stars (all 20-22 years old), you're making less than those players because lets be honest, our core is better than those players.

So really, Shanahan and Co. hands were sorta tied based on how hungry the fans were to see success. They are not going to drive away all this solid talent they have finally gotten because of financial demands and anger the entire fanbase. It's hard to understand, but when you have such a desperate fanbase who's starved for playoff success and searching for the Stanley Cup, you gotta make important decisions. They are overpayments, but to them, they rather overpay their elite talent, than overpay their 3rd/4th line, or 3rd pairing.

Anyway, enough of that. How was your summer? I think we last spoke in the playoffs two years ago. You guys came so frickin close this year.

Good. Then the Leafs won't overpay anyone.
