overpayed as hell. I guess in year 5 and 6 it might look good if the salary cap goes up as much as the rumors are saying.
So its not an overpayment. Check the otha suckas in this league (players) getting the buck. Hayes, and some otha suckas. Not scoring 90 points. But 49.

The cap will go to 100. Marner is here for life. Legendary dirt. Dubas and Marner made it bigg tyme baby and others might be jelious. Toronto will score like 399 goals this season. This team is offensively pure hell. What a club, to celebrate and smoke on that real hard.

And they finna announce the realest legendary captain soon. This is so legendary momentum.

Kucherov gets paid in Florida Man dollars. Kane signed five years ago.

Everyone expected this AAV roughly between $10 and 11. Not an overpay, not an underpay.
Sure he gets the overplayed tax break narrative, but Marner gets the endorsements in Toronto. Let's not gloss over what the NHL MVP is signed for 9.5 and for 8 years. That's how you sign your top players, the team dictate negotiations, not the player.

You guys can knock Dubas all you want, but he got all 3 star forwards signed to term and acquired two top 4 d in 12 months. Oh and signed Tavares too. What a loser.
Plus he didn't overpay any vets or over the hill ufas
Our "worst" contracts are all players under 21.
Lol like is that really a bad thing?

Nice to get paid before winning anything

It would be a big let down if they win the cup...

Just a case of haters moving the goal line. From the last thread:

First, it was, "You can't keep all those great players while keeping your good, secondary players."
Then it was, "Okay you kept them, but you will have to fill out your roster with plugs making league minimum." Meanwhile, Dubas signs capable players in Spezza, Mikheyev, and others to cheap deals.

Now it's, "All that money for Marner and Co. who have never won a round in the playoffs" and "Most of your D are UFAs next year."

It's just comical to me how the haters keep moving the goal line, just to get served crow time and time again. When the Leafs win a playoff round next year, and a suitable outcome is found to shore up the D, what will be the next failed mantra?

Yes, like in the case of Marner. The team did not let his camp dictate the Matthews contract. Marner had to fit in where the Leafs wanted him. More than Nylander, less than Tavares.

Half the cap is spent on 4 forwards.

Nylander is by definition not an all-star.

Muzzin and Barrie are on expiring contracts.

He has made some good trades, especially in dealing Zaitsev (although re-signing Ceci to the same deal is pretty stupid). But he overpaid all 4 forwards and is handcuffed to re-signk key players (Rielly, Andersen) in the future.

Lots of thoughts and emotions on this one. I think they can be summed up like this: It's an overpayment. The worst of the trio, who all got to varying degrees more than what I think is fair. My estimate is that they collectively got somewhere north of $2M more than they should.

The positive is that overpaying your star players are the least of all issues you can have, and we have almost no bad contracts through the rest of the lineup. Most teams have $2M+ overpayments locked up in a single, very replaceable player. We still do for this season with Ceci.

The contract is bad, but there are worse mistakes to be made.

Unfortunately not.

You act is if winning a playoff round is a given. Pretty arrogant.

In all likelihood, Boston beats Toronto in game 7 next year again. Or 6.

Sure they're contenders for the foreseeable future, but 3 years from now they might have to make a hard decision, ever thought about that
Lots of teams make hard decisions every year. It is a Billion dollar business.

Brag when he ices a team that makes it past round 1.

(I know what Leaf fans will respond with. Don't disappoint.)

Why even go down that road? Tampa has been pre-season cup champs since 2014 and still haven't impressed.

I won't even talk about last season.
