Cincy is a nicer metro area, but it's also where some of the most truly ****ed up garbage comes from around here. It's less Ohio and more The Bad Part Of Northern Kentucky.

Yeah, to be fair, outside of going to a music festival on the river and being at the Reds stadium a couple times, when I go to Cincy I'm mainly in the suburbs. I've got friends that live in Milford, Mason and Loveland, and while I have a good time I don't spend much time in the city of Cincinnati. I was actually going to go watch the Padres play up there this weekend but timing didn't work out.

My friend from HS lives outside of Dayton in Bellbrook OH. He's a basketball fan of sorts, though he's more for U of Dayton than pro I think. But since it was such a longshot for them to win, and since his happiness makes me happy, what the heck--Go Cleveland. See, this goes back to what I described a few days ago with ranking of teams that aren't teams I love, like the Preds or UT... Tim is so dear to my heart that he beats out my friend from third grade who lives in California and adores Steph Curry. Sorry Elsa!

I watched the last 10 minutes of the game. LeBron James' reaction was worth devoting a half hour of my life to this activity.

Sometimes I think that we have parallel lives. I grew up in Dayton. Was and is a UD Flyer basketball fan. I went to U of Cincinnati back when you could walk the streets and alleys in safety. One year, the UC BB coach quit 2 days before the game against UD. Cincinnati still beat them up in Dayton. I got to see Jim Paxson (Larry Bird's replacement the year he had heel surgery for bone spurs) play Pat Cummings of UC in Cincinnati. It was quite a game. Pat played about 10 years in the NBA. One of my friends from school was in his suite, so we knew each other by sight. He went to Dallas right after I moved up here to Milwaukee. Jim played 12 years in the NBA and was a first round pick.

As much as I dislike Cleveland, "the mistake on the lake", they haven't won any major league title since I was in kindergarten. That is a long dry spell. Since then, the Reds won 3 WS, the Bengals lost 2 SBs in the 1980s to SF, the Bearcats had a lot of success in the NCAA and Dayton has been a giant killer a few times in recent years. Just ask fans of Ohio State and Stanford.

Congrats to the Cavs and Cleveland! LeBron is a man of his word, unlike Vesey!
He came back to Cleveland and won the title that he promised to them. Wow!

When I went to college at the U of Cincinnati, the Ohio side was nicer. Nicer restaurants and downtown area. You could walk around. Newport had liquor stores and strip joints. An entire city block was leveled by an illegal fireworks factory that exploded. Maybe it started an urban renewal.

When I took my daughter to look at the school, the Newport, Covington and Florence areas were much nicer. That was around 2005. They had new restaurants, the Aquarium and newer malls. It was a big change over 25 years.

I have seen the same thing at Niagara Falls. The Canadian was nicer when I was a kid. As an adult, the US was newer and nicer and the other side had a lot schlocky attractions and a casino. I was surprised how that turned around.

Cincinnati is really a southern city by cultural versus the Midwest. Sipping whisky and watching the steamboats come and go, just like St Louis or New Orleans. My older brother used to say that Cincinnati was the place where the East, the Midwest and the South collided!

Interesting to me that you consider St. Louis "southern". In my albeit limited experience in St. Louis, I couldn't have felt more "midwestern". The accents, the landlocked feeling, and general vibe made me feel so out of place as a lifelong southerner. It felt like Kansas had a baby with Chicago.

Maybe, too, I need to get out of my southern comfort zone

St. Louis is not southern to me in any way, shape or form.

Cincinnati doesn't feel terribly southern to me either but it feels more so than STL does.

Maybe times have changed. It seemed kind of southern to me in 1984. I blame CNN and USA Today for making most of the country seem the same. There is a lot less regional flavor, i.e. Texas versus New England, then when I was a kid. You can get good clam chowder at Denny's in Milwaukee instead of going to the Union Oyster House in Boston. It is more convenient, but not as much adventure or fun.

A friend of mine lived in St. Louis for a short time. And absolutely hated it, she moved back to Nashville in less than a year, lol! But she said the people there tried to say they were southern but she would yell at them NO, they are not southern at all, they are midwestern!

SL is just a diff version of Chic a few hours further south.

and Cincy is in OH, and they can say all they want, but..... if you're in OH, you're not southern, not matter how hard you might try.

There is no "friendly" about either place; there is no "charm" about either place; they're frozen for a significant part of the year; its all "heads down keep moving gotta' get business done".

R.I.P. to Coach Summitt. Even as an Alabama alum, I respected the hell out of her and what she was able to accomplish.

This year truly, truly sucks, as we have lost another great one.

I'm not a UT fan by any means but she's one of the best coaches of all time in the history of college sports of any kind.

Pat Summitt represents legitimacy. Legitimacy of a female coach, legitimacy of women's teams, legitimacy of commitment and hard work being rewarded. She is the winningest Div 1 basketball coach. The. Many of her players went on to have great careers. Her teams played hard, they practiced hard and they could compete and ultimately win championships. Then by building a solid, winning program that necessarily involved young women, she made a women's sport elite and one that girls in high school could aspire to; she took it to a world stage and excelled there, as well. I daresay WNBA would not have existed as early as it did without her influence.

I never played basketball. But the fact that my school came to be known for its women's basketball team is a source of great pride. Whatever people thought of UT or the Vols...when the name Pat Summitt was mentioned there was a hush..."well, now...she's great" and the word "respect" would follow soon enough. How great does that make an alumnus feel? It wells up in our hearts. Look what got built at our alma mater!! I watch "our Lady Vols" frequently enough...and when Pat left there was and is a void. She really was irreplaceable. There may be another coach who is as meticulous and devoted to the sport and the players but they'll never have to build from scratch. She was fierce and fun loving at the same time. I'll never forget her marching down the street with Bruce Pearl, both decked out in their orange--what a dynamic duo that was! That steely glare, the joy, the work ethic, the little things she did to make her players revere her so much. She will be missed. The disease took her too soon, but I'm glad she is now at peace.

Congrats to the Goodlettsville Little League team. Beating Georgia 15-3 this afternoon winning the southeast and winning the first qualifying spot for the Little League World Series.

The Sounds are ruling the PCL.
Vanderbilt is a top 5 program.
And Williamsport has become a second home for local little league teams.
Hopefully MLB takes a serious look at Nashville for expansion.

Not to mention travel ball programs light Knights baseball, who nationally are right there with East Cobb Yankees from top to bottom.

Knights 12u just dominated BPA world series.

We have dominate elite travel teams like the Boro Bruins, Bulldogs, M3 Elite, all dominate travel teams, any of those teams would easily smoke any of the LL teams.

I have an kid that turned 12 yesterday that throws 67 mph. In this area, he's middle of the pack as far as speed.
