What we saw Roy do tonight when he pulled the goalie was an example of great coaching

His team had us pinned in our end for an extended period at a good point in the game to pull a goalie and go up an attacker with some of our weaker guys on the ice - he took advantage of our tired guys out there on an extended shift and his team capitalized on it

A great move from a coach who has shown solid things thus far

I don't think you understand how hard it is to pass MULTIPLE teams in front of you when you're x number of points back. Always someone's gaining points, you wind up running in quicksand unless you go on a major streak.

Besides, what on earth makes you think Ottawa's going to be a seller? They're about in the same position as us (three points out with the same # of games played as Detroit) with the same point total and they're never easy for us. The Isles, Buffalo and Florida are never easy for us no matter how ****ty they are. Not to mention some of the teams in front of us are also going to be benefitting from them selling directly and indirectly.

Oh i understand. It is why I posted the playoffs odds site. We play a lot of the teams that are in the playoff race not to mention 25 games is a HUGE amount.

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html

Right now we are 45.6% which isn't bad at all especial since each game can swing.

I put Ottawa in both groups because I think they will be sellers at the trade deadline, but it is far from certain.

We have the 2nd easiest strength of Opp.

That 45.6 percent only goes down when teams in front of us start adding pieces at the deadline. Moulson/Vanek/etc aren't going to vanish into thin air, although if they went out West it would more or less accomplish that for our purposes at least. And we're pretty unlikely to make a major addition ourselves with our lack of assets (i.e. no forward prospects/draft picks) and young defensemen we can't trade cause the old fart brigade needs to be broken up sooner rather than later.

I don't see any justification or rational thought in bringing Dumbeor back next year. If we somehow get into the playoffs, then okay I could justify it. I wouldn't want it, but I could understand why he'd be brought back.

Deja Vu.

I could've sworn you said this before in another GDT earlier this season.

Not really. What if they went to Pitt, Boston, and Tampa? They would actually help us get into the playoffs if they bet up on the Flyers, Red Wings, Senators, Capitals, Hurricanes, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Blue Jackets and Rangers,

I seem to say this after every game. And each time I say it, the more this guy does to not justify being brought back next year. Maybe in the beginning I wasn't being fair, but at this point I think I am.

I have no doubt Pete will be getting offers if Lou is dumb enough to let him go.

I think if Boston makes a major addition it's going to be on defense. Tampa doesn't really need forward help either, ironically the Pens are the one team of the three I could see adding a Moulson/Vanek. But I'd bet more on a team like Columbus (who hasn't won a playoff game in their history yet but has a great chance this year) breaking the bank to make a big move.

i really hate salvador. he seems like a nice guy, but i'm totally over the whole molasses sal as captain.

he needs to be shipped out...if he is back again next season, i don't think i can watch. he represents everything wrong with the franchise.

I absolutely do not. He'll get offers to be an assistant somewhere like Joe Succo did in Buffalo after being a failure in Colorado. No young team is gonna wanna hire him either because of his reputation.

He'll likely have to pay his dues as an assistant for a few years. I can see a team like Pittsburgh or Philadelphia hiring him as a head coach. A team that we've been killing ever since he's been the coach here.

What coach who's made the playoffs once in six years ever got a THIRD job?

I'd put Pete up there with Brent Sutter at this point. I doubt it very much that he got offers after failing in Calgary. Made the playoffs 2 out of 5 seasons as a head coach. Pete will have made them once in 6 seasons, but a SCF appearance in his only postseason.

Like I said, I could see a team that we've been killing since he's been here, taking him on as a head coach if any team in the NHL.

Those teams already have good coaches because those guys also developed young guys to compliment their veterans.

We scored one goal.
We average one or two goals per game.
It's ok to give up one goal a game. Brilliant, even.
Two goals is even pretty good.

Merrill needs to go back to Albany, and we need a team that can score. If teams can only manage one or two goals against us a game, no matter when those goals happen, and especially when it's one of the best teams in the league, I have a hard time blaming Salvo for it.

CBJ is run by the guy that built the Blues. He isn't going to make a trade to just make sure they make the playoffs. He is trying to do what he did for the Blues.

I dont' know where Mouslon/Vanek are going. They could be coming to us, but the point is are odds of making the playoffs pretty close to a coin flip. We haven't had a winning streak yet this season and the team is due one.

If Pete got fired he would have a head coaching job within a calendar year. You're out of your mind if you think any other organization in the league is going to hold the horrible offensive roster he has against him. The one year he was given a competitive roster he went to the Finals. He'll absolutely have a head coaching job.

I still can't wrap my mind around not having Gelinas up here. Struggle to score, you think they would prioritize some offense.

Other than conceding late giving up goals isn't this teams problem.

0-4 on the PP tonight.

I agree. He'll be scooped up quick. He can coach, but is horrible with young players.
