I'm firmly on the "best forward available" and "trading our 2nds to get back into the first if someone falls" train. We need all the forward help we can get, and I don't understand the logic in trading for a veteran when we're so far from being contenders.

I would imagine a good portion of this board wasn't even alive the last time the Devils drafted a forward as high as 6th overall and another good portion was having their diapers changed.

I was one of those not alive the last time the Devils picked a forward at sixth overall, but I was in diapers when we drafted Niedermayer, so that's a rough idea of my age.

Pumped for anyone but Crouse. He'll be good, but I don't think he'll be the best available or the one that best suits our needs for the pick.

I think the last time was Guerin in 1989. He went 5th.

Wish list in order:

1.A couple of NHL players
2. One that has a 1000 game career as a Devil

That is all.

The only team I can realistically see taking Marner is Arizona. Hopefully they go D.

Strome to Toronto seems like a no brainer

Carolina is supposedly high on Rantanen, Crouse would also fit the bill.

Would love Marner in NJ

think Hanifin/Strome will definitely go 3rd and 4th, just depends what Arizona does.

leave it to that POS organization in Carolina to take Marner right before us tho, most useless franchise in the league.

I'm hoping Carolina takes Crouse.

As an aside, I want to point out that Eichel is having second thoughts :

Eichel intends to wait until after the draft to determine whether he'll return to school or make the jump to the NHL.

''It's my dream to play in the NHL, but I don't think there's a rush to go anywhere,'' he said.

As for the potential of playing in Buffalo: ''Nothing's set in stone right now. But obviously, it would be really nice to play there. There's so much tradition there.''

Eichel did say he wants to complete his degree but I'm a firm believer he will be in the NHL next year.

I would add the last freshman that won the Hobey Baker was picked #4 and also returned to school to play a partial college season before leaving college to join the team that drafted him...

It's not second thoughts, its deciding whether or not he wants to give up NCAA eligibility... the NCAA maybe more appealing than the AHL if he isn't quite ready for the NHL, but once you play ANY pro hockey your college career is over.

Eichel is allowed to attend evaluation camp if he pays his own way, just like Santini and all the other college bound players...I'm sure what will happen is he will attend whatever team that drafts him camp and they both will make the decision whether or not if he is ready. If not he'll probably go back to BU.

C. McDavid was the biggest looser in all this along with Coyotes. Jack
Eichel and Buffalo were the biggest winners.

If I was C. McDavid I would go to CSKA Moscow and get redrafted in 2 years for NHL, or I would go to Oilers as the happiest guy alive. The worst for him will be to go to Oilers and be unhappy as it seems that's the case now.

Put yourself in his shoes, you're the best prospect around for years, and you get punished for being so good, right on national television, in front of everyone.

I already have tons of respect for this young kid, for trying to hide all those emotions. He was simply destroyed.

I believe that all of Barzal, Rantenan, Crouse, and Zacha are nearly interchangeable. Unless the Devils are high on one or the other and Marner is gone i would really consider dropping a couple of spots and adding an extra pick (not below 9 or 10). They have so many options is will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I don't care who they take, but I hope they take who they feel is the BPA. I'm not fan on drafting on needs.

If they think Werenski or whatever is the good choice, let's go for this. We can still trade one of our defensman for offensive help during the summer.

I think the only way that happens is if Columbus, San Jose, or Colorado really wants Provorov and they think somebody ahead of them is going to take him. Or if Hanifin or Marner drop out of the top 5, in which case I would hope the Devils would run to the podium and make the pick immediately.
