I like Barzal right now at 6. I only rank him above Rantanen because he is a guy that is not only good himself but he will elevate his wingers. Reading on him I keep seeing speed, vision, and smarts. Center as well.

Where is Konecny projected to go? He seems like a pretty good scorer but I fear he is rated a bit after our pick.

Still so high on Crouse. And Branco and Konecy so high too.

And he must be crazy high on some of the defense. He likes provorov and werkenski as top 10 guys I imagine?

His rankings in the past have been excellent in regards to consensus lower ranked players who people thought he had "too high." And yes, Werenski and Provorov are in his top 10, although I don't think that's out of the ordinary. Also, I don't think Crouse at 10 is high at all. People usually get worked up when they see Crouse top 5 over someone like Strome.

We traded up in 2009 for Josefson from #23 to #20 with Calgary. With Tedenby, it looks like we traded down with Washington and then back up w/ Minnesota if I'm reading it right.

That's right.
It's the year we could have drafted Eberle but traded down.

I don't like when we trade down generally.

Do wonder if Lou's preference is a trade over drafting a BPA DMan.

I feel like there's a big group of forwards and defensemen who are roughly the same skill level after the top five. So, I feel like unless Hanifan falls to 6th, and Marner/ Strome are taken, he'll take Hanifan. With that being said, I think he'll go with Barzal, Rantenan, and Crouse over Werenski, and Provorov based on the need.

That's what we think but scouts might not think they are as all close. Idk.

A lot of the rankings don't really match up with what all of us have been speculating.

if JVR for our 1st was on the table, would you?

Value-wise I'd consider it - he's young enough and signed for long enough at a reasonable number. The only issue is he's a LW that shoots left, which is the one thing up front we don't need right now. We need C/RW'ers more...but that's certainly the type of player I wouldn't sneeze at Lou trading a first-rounder for.

i would prolly do it, especially if the top five went mcdavid, eichel, hanifin, strome, marner.....I don't think that move alone would be enough though obviously. If you were gonna go that route, I would maybe even try to make it into a bigger deal with Toronto (maybe try to pry kadri away somehow?) or look to package one of the young dmen for another top six forward under 30.

I'd do it for the simple reason that we need MORE OFFENSE. Doesn't matter that we don't need more LW'ers. We need players that can score goals more often than not(and with this team, it's "not").

If JVR is available for just #6 pick in trade(probably toss in a prospect, I guess), I would do it if the BPA available was Hanifin.

Nope to jvr. Bringing in wingers that are not primary scoring options isn't going to do anything when the Devils have such weak center depth. His production will probably not be anything to write home about here too with him having to be the number one option and him not having kessel on his line.

Yeah, let's not make the same mistake Toronto did in giving us the chance to draft Nieds.
