I mostly concur...but I do think it's worth remembering that (afaik at least) there was an agreement in place with VGK at the draft that they wouldn't take Toby if he was exposed...

No such agreement existed at the time he agreed to waive and no promise was made at that time. Jets and Vegas later worked out the deal to swap picks. That will be when they also agreed to take Thor.

That timeline would make no sense. Why would Vegas agree beforehand and make it easier for the Jets to convince Toby to waive, thereby ensuring Vegas does not get one of Buff, Trouba, or Morrissey? Enstrom would have had to agree first before Vegas would have made that deal.

Considering what we did for Thorburn, we really should do something (more) for Enstrom. The guy paid a heavy price for this team. Don't get me wrong, he was paid $ very well. But he paid a heavy price physically for this team.

Given his size I was surprised he played for as long as he did. Hats off to Toby.

fair enough...I just remember hearing about the agreement with VGK. I wasn't sure of the timeline.

He drove me crazy every time he would circle back into our end with the puck, but I trusted that when he had the puck, it was going to be a safe play coming up. The mere fact that he helped the team by waiving his clause during the expansion draft makes me an Enstrom fan for life.

Northern Hemisphere.
Every time Toby E. hit the ice in the NHL Play Offs - nothing, and I mean nothing happened.

Even when he got to play with Dustin Byflugien.

Winnipeg time is över för you (as in Swedish!).

So, good luck in Sweden Toby!

Sucks to see this might be the end of his time here. We need the cap relief though moving forward, so unless he is prepared to cut back a bit given his reduced role on the team I just can't see the fit moving forward. Feels bad, but it's purely business. He supported Winnipeg and loved us, even waived his clause to give us an edge at the expansion draft. The guy has my respect.

I need to ask you guys a question. I like Tobias but the fact is he had one goal and five assists in 43 games, and zero points in the playoffs. Those numbers are bottom of the NHL barrel bad. It’s hard to find an NHL:er with worse stats, and let’s not forget he has only played less than 59 games on average in the last four seasons... with a cap hit of 5.75M! I get it that he’s liked as person by many, but I can’t understand how anyone can defend those numbers. Someone will say that he shuts down others but come on, no matter how much shutting down he does it’s a net negative. I dare you to find an active NHLer with worse stats, for reals (not to mention the cap hit and injury problems).

Go back and look at post #54 in this thread. The Jets get lots of offense, including from their back end. Being a big time shut down player is not a bad thing.

I want to see any NHL team offer him a contract. It's not gonna happen. Maybe a PTO. This guy has been loved by TN. He hasn't done jack for 4 years. He's been a financial liability. I wouldn't dislike him If he was making 3 mil a year. But 5.75? This guy is laughing all the way to the bank. Take the money and run. You were never worth that kind of money.

She says there are so many things and people in the city she is going to miss, that isn't how you end a post like that if you expect to be here in September.
My guess is there was no implied promise* by the organization to keep him which if he really really likes it here will drive his ask down.
* that could make a long time employee which he is .., hurt
Who knows for sure

If not THAT is a final goodbye to Winnipeg ... then I don't even know.

But I'm a Finn ... so there you go ...
You Finns think Little and Buff suck so I don’t know :sarcasm:
Time will tell.
I personally think he’s not worth it simply because of missed time

Oi, I never ever said a bad thing about either Buff/Little!

Great hockey-players both of them. Me thinx.

And whatever a random Finn thinks about 'em ... that's just his problem ...

Truth be told we will need someone who can bring what Toby brings next season. We have our offense first guys with ok to suspect defense (Buff, Myers, Morrow soon to be Niku). We have our our two way guys Morrissey and Trouba. No idea what Poolman is yet and Chariot is well Chariot. We could use another suppression specialist to offset all the offense first guys we have.

I have always been an Enstrom fan and read the advanced stats and I would consider him a well above average defenceman but an elite shutdown guy is hard to believe. I really don't think you can say you would rather have him on the ice against the opponent's elite players instead of Morrissey or Trouba.

The injury prone problems are an issue as well, as is/was his cap hit.

I truly think we can upgrade over Enstrom this off season. Niku might be better, unlikely I know, but there are plenty of other d-men would could acquire I think most of us would prefer.
