I think that actually happened 10-15 years ago with a high profile UFA, I don't remember who it was. It's obviously very rare, but it would be awesome.
Everyone always says "Hey! Let's do that!" but it VERY rarely happens. Surprisingly so.

we don’t need another right handed dman.

get him over to Colorado and rip Byram from them with a few picks added in there, some depth players.

also, he’s not gonna be re-signed here if he is traded. That doesn’t happen. Nor would I want him back if he wants to jump ship.

Unless Hall signs an extension I don't see why Colorado would give up Byram + picks for him.

Can we please stop with this? It isn't going to happen.

Given the usual return for rentals, probably not a prospect like Byram.

Duchene, who isn't close to the player Hall is, brought back a mid 1st, Abramov, Davidson and another conditional 1st. Kevin Hayes, who isn't on the same planet as Hall, brought back a 1st and Brendan Lemieux. The bidding for Duchene and Hayes wasn't close to what it would potentially be for a Hart trophy winner in his prime.

Byram is a hefty price, but in the scenario bidding ramps up, I don't think it's out of the question. Colorado is overflowing with defensemen and would have a chance to sign Hall long term. Hall should undoubtedly return more than the 1st + B level prospects that guys like Duchene and Hayes brought back.

they want Hall for a deep run, they can give us Byram and some picks that include a first rounder. Newhook would be the least I’d take prospect offer wise, but they’d need to add to the picks that would obviously come with that.

in that scenario, we would be the one ‘adding a few picks in there’
We’re not adding picks to get an unproven prospect when trading a proven elite player that is 2 seasons removed from winning the league MVP.

Halls comments don’t sound encouraging to singing quickly. He’s okay with waiting more from a few more weeks to months. I’d rather just trade him than have this shit hang over the team and fanbase.

An elite player who missed almost 50 games last year and is UFA at the end of this season. I think you and some others are setting yourselves up for disappointment hoping for a massive haul for Hall. Of course knowing you it'll be Hynes' fault we didn't get what you seem to be expecting.

I don't see Sakic as someone willing to "go for it". He strikes me as the super slow build from within type guy. I'd be surprised if he makes a truly competitive offer.

The only way I see him doing it is if they lose another key forward or their season seems to be on the brink. Right now, they're third in a pretty weak division, so I don't see the impetus for Sakic to do anything big.

they’re not adding picks along with the best defensive prospect in the nhl to get a few months of a guy who played less than half a season last year, fresh off of knee surgery

Abramov and Davidson are worth very little. A mid 1st and Brendan Lemieux isn't much. Taylor Hall isn't in his prime.

It is extremely unlikely that Colorado would offer Byram without getting a significant prospect from NJ back. Like, Ty Smith big. They used a 4th overall pick on him a year ago. Even if they got Hall signed long-term, which I'm not sure they could do or would do, I don't think Colorado trades them Byram.

This early in the season it’s hard to envision any team as ready to go all in. If Hall was traded now the better approach might be to find a GM on the hot seat who needs a good season to save his job. And no that isn’t Shero.

Devils' Taylor Hall says agent will meet with GM during road trip

"I think I'll definitely talk to Darren beforehand and just chat about how things are going. But at this point in time there's not much that Darren and I haven't really talked about. We both know what the situation is and we're just kind of waiting to see what transpires over the next couple weeks, month or couple months."

Morreale noted that it will be the first meeting between Ferris and Shero since September. It appears that both parties are intent on Hall remaining with the Devils for the foreseeable future.

"Ray and I connect regularly," Ferris said to NHL.com in a text message. "I will be at the games out west and I am sure we will connect at some point during this time."

Yeah, that just doesn't sound good to me.

What part doesn't sound good?

The possibility of Hall leaving.....or the possibility of him staying? :sarcasm:

(or maybe your answer is : YES.)
