I was pretty impressed with the wolves ability to keep the puck down low and create chances off the cycle. Bulitka, Pezetta, & Sokolov were very effective off the cycle last night. Murray too given he is 16. 7 SOG for Levin. The wolves will have four pretty good lines when Carson returns. Blaisdell is a big addition to the D.
The sting just capilized on their chances. That is a good team. Their neutral zone D and counter attack is especially good.

I saw that as well with Pezetta Bulitka and Sokolov, it was very impressive however I am not sure you will see that combination often. It will be great to get Carson back and see what combinations will be tried.

You can also expect a more vet wolves D & maybe Carson too
Barrie losing its top player for 8 weeks makes the central a little more winnable

Well sounds like Carson will return by the Canada/Russia game. It may take a bit to get going and bring his strength up but he will be a welcomed addition to our PP. The Wolves can make some noise if they do things right come December/January. If Sudbury looks to make a run next season then you deal Sokolov no matter what this year. Possibly Candella as well. The return in picks would beneficial for next year when you want to make a run. As well I'm sure they can get a good solid prospect on the backend and depth guy up front. This kid of deal should still help Sudbury get into the playoffs this year but will help immensely next season.

I don't believe the Wolves will make the playoffs this year.

They do not have anyone on that roster that can play a defensive game. They had Dunda last year but are deciding to go with Valentini instead. Letting Dunda go was a bad move.

Now that he isn't in the lineup, who are the Wolves going to rely on as their PK/ shutdown player? It can't be Carson, the Wolves need his points, can't be Levin, Sokolov or Valentini. These three were in the top ten for worst +/- last season, and I don't think Sokolov has even been in his own end before.

The Pilon twins do not belong in the OHL. There is absolutely no upside to these two players at all. I would cut them both loose and replace them both with Evan Krassey, for toughness and Gaudreau for a mix of both. The Pilons are a hazard. What do they do besides get stupid penalties?

Lane, Gilhula and Balitka had a hard time playing regularly so there defensive game has question marks all over it.

Now that leaves the draft picks, there is no way any guy the Wolves drafted that can play that style of game.

Now defense:

The blue line is a disaster. On a good team, O' Grady is 5-6 in the lineup. On a great team, he is in the stands or doesn't make it.

Rhodes is a milk bag. Try and define him. He is not an offensive threat, he has a whopping 23 points in in 3 seasons, he isn't a defensive specialist, he is -52 in three seasons, he isn't a physical guy either, only 100+ pims in the last 3 seasons. Why Papineau would trade a 4th round pick for him is a mystery considering he could have got him for the bag that holds the pucks if he waited a bit. Or just saved the pick and looked for a 19 yr old that could do just as well.

Wilkie: He is a disaster.

McGrath: Every shooter in the league know they can blast pucks past his blocker more times than not. This is why he did not get drafted....

Cory Stillman will be interesting as coach. He has zero experience managing Jr players. So can he coach? Not sure. Moxam is no more than a Papineau yes man and has absolutely no say in anything. The trainer has as much input as he does. The new guy, if he is anything like he was in the NOJHA, will have no effect at all.

To be real here, Papineau is worse than Burgess was. Burgess was a jerk period, while Papineau is a jerk an a control freak. This guy has no experience at all. His was a very minor scout for Carolina and was one of the most hated girls hockey coaches in the city. He went from managing a Jiffy Lube to running the Wolves.

Granted, he did a good job in raping the Storm for another undefinable player in Lalonde, behind Levin the second worst pick in the history of the draft.

Players didn't want to come here because of Burgess, now, guys don't want to come here because of Papineau. That is the same reason players want out as well.

Think of this posters: According to the papers, "Matsos left because "they couldn't come to agreement on an extension". BUT, he had a year left on his contract. Smith left because of Papineau, everyone knows that.

Two days after Matsos left, magically Stillman was hired. Pretty coincidental that he was a Carolina guy. But funny things happen. But, to connect the dots, Zulich states on the radio that the first time he met Stillman was at Stillman's farm when he was planting potatoes? This was not even in June, 3 or 4 days after they "parted ways" with Matsos. This was all planned from the get go and the really sad thing is that a coach that brought the team to the playoffs, with the horrible players he had from Burgess, for the first time in forever, is gone because he couldn't come to terms on a contract for 2018-2019? Some people are just stupid....

Blast from the past. Where has this fellow disappeared too. :)

This is the kind of compromise I have been referring to.

Well kind of frustrating last night. On the one hand it was great to see the Wolves outplaying a team with the Sing's record, even building a 2-0 lead. On the other hand it kind of hurt (or stung) a bit more to lose the lead on opportunistic goals and eventually the game. Way too many missed opportunities on the power play, trying to be too fine. Sarnia is a good team, the kind that can win a game even when it doesn't play its' best game, especially with the kind of goaltending Fazio gave them. Anyhow onward and upward from here regardless. Need to secure the game tonight and get back on track.

I am kind of worry on our goaltending this year, i am a fan of McGrath but this year he's is not at his best, maybe getting injured during training camp hasn't help, also new goalie coach. Frappier looks like he will be decent but a rookie. I'm sort of thinking in finding a veteran goalie, might be what team need if McGrath doesn't find his game. Any thoughts?

I don't disagree and it wouldn't surprise me if they go w Frappier tonight.I'm not a big fan of "floater" goals. I'm sure Papineau is keeping his eye on the situation.

I’m not certain Frappier (17) or McGrath (18) will ever be among the top 7 G in the OHL; but, I’m pretty sure they have until seasons end to prove they could backstop a winning team.
Blaisdell really solidifies the D. That gives the young G(s) a much better chance to look good.

When Sokolov really wants to score, it seems he won’t be denied this year. That one two minute shift last night, he was not getting off the ice until he scored. It may have been a good thing for him that he did score. Both of his goals were just Soks determined to score on that shift. He has been a pretty good set up man this year too.
With the addition of Blaisdell and Barrie’s loss of Svechnikov, I think the wolves can/will move up the central division standings. If the team is in a position to go after the two seed (4th less likely) at the trade deadline, I would like to see the team stay in tact. Some wins will go a long way in development and leave the draft elligibles with a good impression on scouts.

Wow, few games ago you were ready to trade everyone :), like i said we have very good coaching staff and a proactive manager. The team is going in right direction and getting better, getting Carson back will solidify two very good lines, and we should also have a good third and fourth lines. My thinking regarding the goaltending is if we had like you said a top 7 goalie that can win some games on his own we can be dangerous.

I completely agree a better G would be great now. I am not sure that would be the right move for now and future, though.
You completely misunderstood my posts, Cub. IMO, this team could not take a step back this season. At that time (no Blaisdell), being rid of Wilkie & Ali (sitting/gone) so the team could lose winnable games with rookie D in situations that they are not equipped to handle...may as well sell and tank properly. With Blaisdell, the wolves won both winnable games using four 19 & 20 yr old D for 90+ minutes per game. What I see now, is what I expected pre-season, a team that can win games now so it knows how to win when they have a good chance at real success next season.
Blaisdell is no doubt an upgrade on Wilkie & Ali for this season. It does not matter to me if that trade was made due to Ross being hurt, Papineau made the move; and, I’m pleased with that.

With the addition of Blasidell or any vet with years of experience in the league would have a huge impact on this team. I recall posting on this very issue that Sudbury needed to get another vet on the backend before they started to lose way too many games. It would have had a really impact on the psyche of the team. Maybe the injury to Ross in a strange way was a blessing because I think they were going to let the kids play. This definitely had Papineau make the deal early last week. And he must of been waiting to see what became available. With Kitchener making that push for Sherwood I'm sure Kitchener had Blasidell up for trade or even made calls out to find him a place for him to play as a respected organization would do. It has been our gain as we now have 4 vets with many years of experience and games played in the league. It bodes well for closing out games and killing penalties. The extra offence from Rhodes is awesome. But if you look at the entire defence as a whole OGrady, Candella, Malik, have all chipped in offensively. This is a different style that we are used to in Sudbury from the past years having that one offensive cog providing the offence. So moving forward this team is playing how they should. We have enough talent to stay in games. You take away the two losses to NorthBay and the one to Barrie early in the season and you have a different look in the standings. If we have a full line up and a healthy overage situation it would have been a different start. We had some really bad luck and finally the ship is headed into the right direction. With Carson returning soon this will have two players sitting out. McConville will be an extra and then I think you see Tabek and Hutchison rotate in and out or give a rest to a guy who may be banged up and needs an extra game or two to heal. I think Stillman recognizes this in his players. He seems to have a pulse on the fitness level of his players and holds them acceptable. He has not had professional success by accident. Stillman worked his tail off in the OHL and NHL and has the results because of that work ethic. I already see him developing and improving the play in Levin, Pilons, Gilhula and Bulitka. Pezzetta seems to thrive on the his no nonsense style and his having a sort of a breakthrough offensively. His composure is noticeable by not taking too many stupid penalties. Last season he was a train wreck and had zero accountability placed on him. I really like the depth of this team up front. I think we can still find one more 18 year old for our backend. But overall sit back and watch and see how this plays out. Sokolov is still a very big piece to look at trading to get the pieces we will need next year. I believe he should be the only guy we deal if thats the direction the team wants to take come the deadline. Our line up next year could look like this depending on who comes back as overagers.

Frappier 18
McGrath 19

Candella (OA) OGrady (OA)
Malik 18 Ross 17
Serentis 18 1st Rd Pick
(player through trade) Phillips
Wawrow

Carson 19 Pezzetta (OA) Baker 18
Levin 19 Murray 17 (player from Soko trade)
Hutchison 18 Gilhula 18 Bulitka 18
Tabek Bowie 17 McConville
Siau 17 McDougall 17 and 2nd rounder

We would still have to deal the Pilon twins which could bring in one very good player or a couple of draft picks to make a deal in the summer or the deadline. And depending on what the NHL club says when Samulsson is drafted maybe he plays in Sudbury for his 18th birth year. So Sudbury does not have to do anything too crazy at the deadline but they surely do have options for this season and next.

This team is looking strong with the addition of Blasidell, wasn't sure if he was the answer when I first aw the trade but now pleasantly surprised at how good an impact he has had.

I'd hate to see the Pilon twins go. I take it they would both be overagers next year? If that's the case then I can see what the dilemma would be. Lots of road to go before we cross that bridge though.
Good nip and tuck game last night. Parity in our conference (and throughout the league) is very noticeable this year. Very important that the Wolves found a way to win a close one to improve their confidence at closing out games. The importance of the addition of Blaisdelle cannot be overstated. I'm also thrilled with the play of Rhoades. Along with Candella (who has been steadily improving and fitting in) Papineau has already shown himself to be infinitely better at making good deals than previous management. I also liked the play of Frappier and at this point he may well deserve the net more than Jake (hopefully that serves as motivation for him as a healthy competition in goal is a good thing). We need to string together a few wins to climb over .500 and hopefully not look back.
