I'm always right on criticizing when it is deserved. Tonight isn't one of those times. You could tell they just didn't have the horses in 3 on 3. And the vatanen hate is laughable. Yeah he made a stupid play that ultimately helped lead to the gwg, but aside from that in the crapshoot 3 on 3, he was solid again. On to tomorrow - will be a tough game bc the stars have been playing really well the past half dozen games or so

Three guys all checking the same player in 3on3 is just pathetic.

That's something you might see in Beer League hockey or whatever but that should never happen in an NHL game.

Sucks that it did but what can you do? Just take the road point and try to see if they can get another tomorrow against a very tough Dallas team.

Zacha has to tie up his guys stick there.

If he takes away the stick, that play is dead.

That's on Zacha more than Vatanen.

BS. Zacha was the only one who played that well. No way he can anticipate Vatanen being incompetent and not being able to strip the puck away from the guy Zacha has pinned. And then Coleman drifting over leaving his man open only compounds the incompetence on the ice. I feel bad for Zacha, because it seems like whenever he plays well someone else on the ice with him f***s shit up on an epic proportion and somehow Hynes blames Pavel.

No. Vatanen made the correct play to help Zacha on the wall.

It was Coleman's fault for bizarrely leaving the middle of the ice to TRIPLE TEAM the guy on the wall, as if he forgot there were other players on the ice.
Man do I disagree. You are supposed to leave last man deep there 3v3. 99% of coaches would tell their player that.

It seems like we should have Palms back, which would be a big help.

Play Cory tomorrow night, announce it right now in the post game presser.

He's red hot and arguably our best player on the team without Hall in.

I want our best healthy player in tomorrow.

Why not?

That's basic board play. Take the opponents stick out of the way and he's useless.

If Zacha ties up Hudon's stick, that puck goes up the ice quickly.

Vatanen expected that Hudon wasn't going to make the play though. Zacha took Hudon partially out of the play, but he didnt take away the stick.

You watch any guy who is strong along the boards and half of board play is preventing your opponents options, more than what you do.

Not saying everyone is absolved, but Zachas gotta be better there too.

Players at fault... 1. Coleman 2. Vatanen 3. Zacha

Hynes : "We're giving Cory the day off tomorrow. Kinkaid will play."

Scary part is that I can picture him saying this, too.

So was Vatanen good tonight aside from giving the game away in OT?

I had a game so I missed everything prior to the last 5 of the 3rd period.

I’m happy with the performance overall. This depleted group looked better than we did last season. I really wanna see a fully healthy team.

Thought Zacha had a great game and should have been given some time with Nico/Bratt.

His PP shift on the point was much better than anything Butcher or Vatanen did in that role all game.

Not talking about the whole game, I'm talking about that one play, it wasn't smart
What? Him trying to make a play in the ozone and then skating back into position or him helping his teammate when the puck became lose which was the right play? Third guy in should have covered the slot, end of story.

3 on 3 hockey is not an indicator of who played well. You do not ignore the great game all night one shift of 3 on 3 hockey.

yeah i know, he just totally screwed up in their zone tho.... he didnt have to try for that risky play. if you and i know its 3 v 3 so should he. hes the one on an nhl team where its 3v3 in ot. he sent the line into a tailspin and the end result is what you get when you do that. live and learn. still had a decent game. just has to be smarter there at the end.

Honestly though, 3-on-3 is pretty much just a breakdown waiting to happen. We still got a point on the road with a depleted forward group.

Vatenen has been fine. Not great, not bad. I don't see any reason to bash him for his play overall, lets give him more time with a roster that can actually produce offense and not ice 3 4th lines.

Btw, why in the f*** would you go Zacha and Coleman? And how the hell do you not go with Zacha and Wood given how they have played together since Zacha got back into the lineup and were just missing connecting on goals tonight?

He tried to make a play in the Ozone, it didn’t work out and he properly got back, then made the right play to go after the loose puck in the dzone, Coleman is the one at fault for leaving the slot open
