Dead wrong on your assessment.

It's a "nothing burger" move, works for both teams.
Why is he wrong?
trade can be brilliant for one team and brilliant for the other team…

Hayes trade good for Philly in the sense that they have 3.5 mil to « use » and they trade a player who didnt fit for many reasons not all on him.
Hayes trade good for Blues if they get 3c production from him. Pretty safe bet imo. Maybe less so in 3yrs.

Hayes is breathing a sigh of relief not having to play for Torts another season. Let the kids play. Let Torts run out his contract. Some players can't handle the fire. Instead of being a leader you just want to be a little _________ (fill in the blank)

Love it from Briere. Burn the old underbrush, make room for new growth.

I trust St. Louis' management, so I won't question it on their end. 3.5 for Hayes is alright.

Briere went from that brilliant Provorov trade to... whatever the hell this is. Just awful.

Pretty clear they wanted to change the culture and just not have that contract played out. Feels like they retained more than they needed to, but I’d assume he was shopped around and this was the best offer that existed.

Not sure it’ll be that great for STL either. Right now they’re a middle-of-the-road squad with suspect defensive commitment. This doesn’t help that much.

But at 3.5m Hayes isn't a cap dump. 50pts is worth 3.5m on any team in the league.
And yet Wheeler had 55 points and apparently has no takers at $4.125m for a single year.

Hayes got to 50 points because he had the most ES and PP TOI out of any Flyer forward last season.

At least you still have half of his salary to remember him by.
And you still have 100% of Krug's salary for four more years. :snide:

There are reasons teams aren't touching Wheeler. Point production isn't one of them.

This has to be pretty insulting blow for Hayes.

To be traded for a 6th is bad enough.
To get that 6th your team had to retain 50% of your contract?

Ouch, my pride.

Hayes is likely to fall off a cliff as he is to maintain his value through his contract. There's no potential upside for the remainder of his contract. Danny B got some cap space and a low value pick while the Blues got a fairly cost controlled center/winger at fair value.

Hayes point production is probably going to be around 30-35 points playing on the 3rd line with suspect defense.
