This could be one of the best moves I’ve seen against the Flyers. And that’s saying something. No defense of it whatsoever from most Flyer fans. The trade was even for a 2024 pick, not this year. So what’s the point? It’s all Torts and that is terrible. From Fletcher to this…

This is a steal for the Blues...especially if Hayes continues the tradition of players recently elevating their play once traded to the Blues. (Schenn/RoR/Buchnevich).
BSchenn?
Last 2 yrs in Philly 57 pts.
6 Yrs in StL: close to 57 pts…

Dude what? Check your math.

In philly, Schenn has scored 246 points in 424 games. That’s an average of .58 pts per game or around 48 pts per 82 games.

Since coming to the Blues, Schenn has scored 341 points in 425 games. That’s an average of .80 pts per game or around 65 pts per 82 games.

Even if you want to cherry pick his last two seasons in philly, Schenn has without a doubt played better in St. Louis.

Pretty clear they wanted to change the culture and just not have that contract played out. Feels like they retained more than they needed to, but I’d assume he was shopped around and this was the best offer that existed.

Not sure it’ll be that great for STL either. Right now they’re a middle-of-the-road squad with suspect defensive commitment. This doesn’t help that much.
Its all about timing shopping him around now doesn't tell you what you need to know about what kind of deal you could get once choices A. and B. start drying up. There are probably way more than 2 teams that are interested in and would prefer Barbs or ROR. Once they are gone a better deal for Hayes is probably available IMO.

I could also see how a GM with much bigger fish to fry just wants to get Hayes done and doesn't value the upgraded but also bad return.

Just showing his forehead in every video is a gimmick by Weekes right? He can't be worse than my father in terms of operating a smart phone and is just doing it as sort of his "branding" right?

....Right?

Honestly annoying...

No need to dude Dude.
I used same 341 pts divided by 6 seasons: 57 pts.
last 2 yrs in Philly 114 pts: 57 pts

Last 2 full yrs is not cherry-picking…

found it ironic it came up exactly at 57.

apparently you didnt. Carry on and happy draft night to you.

There are also reasons Hayes is a cap dump.

I'll take "lazy" way before I accept "Guy who apparently is so miserable to be teammates with he completely destroys the locker room" every time. A certain coach or group just might fix lazy. I doubt it but I'll take a chance at 3.5 mil for nothing in return.

Which one? Both are pretty bad, but in Philly you can at least travel close to something relevant or interesting. There's a reason why people in the Midwest call Missouri "Miseri."
Philadelphia. It's the second-biggest city on the East Coast. You don't need to go anywhere. It's by nature relevant and interesting. Where are you going to go? The only places on the East Coast with more to do are NYC and Miami. Miami is far away and more expensive, and NYC is fine for 3 or 4 days, but most Philadelphians rarely go up there. We have our fun little bubble of great food, sports mania, problematic alcohol and drug use, and some beaches and casino 90 minutes away when we want them.

You’re responding to a troll, just FYI. Congrats on Michkov!

We have two casinos 15 minutes from the suburb and two in stl. Lol. Stl is no slouch.

We have the faux-casinos in Philly and Chester, as well. I meant Atlantic City. I am not even a gambler. I was just naming places that actually get Philadelphians to leave the bubble. For most, it's pretty much always Southeastern PA, South Jersey, and Delaware with the occasional trip to Florida or New York or the West Coast.

Wow, Flyers pay 3.5mil for air for 3 years, and they get a 6th rounder.

Even if he sucks, Kevin Hayes has positive value at 3.5mil,

Might be the worst deal I've ever seen.

Try Bryzgalov or Ghost.
6th rounder doesnt matter.
Having 3.5 mil to spend on a different replacement player hopefully better and younger.

If he ends up sucking, how is it positive value?

Blues could retain another 50% and still get something even if he has a down year. Wonder what his value is with another 50 retained right now…

St.L will be quite fine with how Hayes plays for 3.5 million. He can be quite frustrating holding onto the puck for too long. But at 3.5, he slots into a 3rd line payscale and they are flawed guys anyways.

He will get 40-55 pts and in 2 years, they will trade him for a 2nd. Great use of cap space and leverage.

That is absolutely GARBAGE return for sending a team Kevin Hayes and paying him $3.57m a year for 3 years. Hayes as a FA is getting more than a 3 yr/$11m contract.

Flyers continue to eat $3.57m a year for the next 3 years. Let a team get Hayes at a discount to what he'd command as a UFA and they get a 6th round pick out of it.

Briere looks like he just showed its open season on taking advantage of him.
Well if you wanted the Flyers to buy him out instead and be on the Flyers books for 6 years instead of 3 then that would have been Briere's other option. It was apparent that Torts had no plans to play Hayes in a top 6 role the next 3 years and other teams knew it. Just went to show everyone what the rest of the league thought of Hayes and acquiring him. Briere didn't get taken advantage of, he just realized no other team was interested in acquiring Hayes.

In my view this was a fine move, it allows:

1) Opens a roster spot for another younger player
2) Helps the "tank" for next season
3) Clears some cap space

Blues also get some great value, so it's a fine deal for both parties.

Buy out was a worse option.
especially years 2 and 3 of said buyout: only saving 2 mil per season but you then add 1.6 for 3 more seasons.

teams try to avoid buying out as it sends bad signal to players. Briere has luxury on blaming crap on Fletcher as he should.
