Exactly.
Read this earlier and then forgot about it. What a blockbuster trade to turn it around
is he a guy you can put out on the PK? block shots?
I know the Rangers desperately need a guy who can win face-offs but it seems that everyone here thinks his game is better on the boards?

LOL!! "I'm off to join Boyler in the playoffs. Hope you boys get some good tee times while we're there..."
See, the (ex)Sharks are going to make the playoffs!!
Say what you will about his game, he give 100%, 100% of the time while here!

Agreed. Shep wasn't (and shouldn't be) coming back next season so they let him go early and effectively pay him less than they would have for the last ~20 games of the season to get a 4th round pick. I'd make this move over letting him walk in FA every day of the week.
Especially since Sheppard is one of the stronger players on the boards too. I don't get the rationale.
This trade is so bad. Sheppard is the player who enabled this team to have a reasonable depth beyond the first 2 lines. This only makes sense if it's an attempt to clear cap space.

They don't need him, but replacements don't come cheaper than what Sheppard would have demanded next year.He also had a bad habit of mailing it in and since he was a pending free agent, I doubt they felt the need to keep him around.

Anyway, maybe they wanted to get rid of him because of locker room reasons. If they felt that he was a bad influence on the team spirit, then I think it was the right call. He's not that important. But if that isn't the case, then it was a bad trade.
I don't know. I think he's more consistent than guys like Nieto and Hertl. Granted those are young players, but if you put the big 4 forwards aside, I can't see how Sheppard has consistency issues. In my opinion Sheppard did not give a full effort all the time and since that has been one of the biggest complaints coming from the coach about players not showing up this should surprise no one.
Rangers fan here can he fight a bit? Does he stick up for teammates? Will he add some grit because we need some on the 4th line...
