So, after resting him in the press box, they are resting him on the frickin 4th line with no PP time?

Ouch.

That is a lot of rest indeed for a former 1 OA scoring winger.

Hopefully he can show that he's a grinder, maybe Reaves will show him how to fight?

WTF is Gallant doing?

48-21-6

Gallant is winning. One of the best coaches in the league.

When your

Context certainly matters and it allows us to give solid reasoning for Alexis' lack of PP production

But context cant negate the fact that hes 1-of-1 in two separate stat categories as they relate to PP since 2020; the only player over 70PP minutes without a point (before he got one around his 135th PP minute) and having the lowest P/60 on the PP in the league

He certainly isnt being helped by Gallant and the team and I disagree with how theyve handled it; but its also partially on him and his somewhat lack of any resemblance of confidence

When I watched a few games of Alexis in juniors and worlds, he played with such poise and confidence that I just havent seen in the big league yet outside some short bursts (which to me proves he still has it, just has to find it or perhaps the bright lights of NY are too much for a quiet kid like him, its possible)
He’s very vocal, extroverted & goofy. Definitely not a quiet kid, Kakko, that’s a quiet kid lol

wow the poll
Do you guys remember a player by the name of Alex Steen?
I know he was never projected to be on the same level of Laf
But he had alot of promise and put up 42 points as a rookie
the next year we traded him after a measly 20 games where he put up like 4 or 5 points
got Lee Stempniak
and you guys know the rest of the story
Keep your kid and let him develop
you move him and you will regret it likely less than a year away

This is legit a Jack Hughes situation; underwhelming first season or two and catches fire the third. Just watch next year and the kid will be on absolute fire. Seller beware
Its actually not a Jack Hughes situation. Hughes every season his ppg improved. Even as a rookie he constantly showed flashes of being elite, & his skating was elite from day one. Lafreniere on the other hand has a worse ppg in his 2nd instead of improving. He also is not elite in a single category & doesn't flash any skills that a 1st overall should have.

Laf

20-21: .38 PPG
21-20: .35 PPG

Hughes

19-20: .34 PPG
20-21: .55 PPG

Hughes showed improvement his second year. Had really good microstats too.

Laf hasn't shown that improvement like Hughes year 2.

If LW is where he's at his best, and Kreider and Panarin have the top 6 LW spots locked up for the next half-decade, and the Rangers want to win during that window...then it makes a ton of sense to move Laf.

See if something changes next year and then if he's still struggling to find his niche at the deadline, you likely have the best trade bait in the league to shore up your weaknesses.

Wouldn't move him before then though. These young lotto picks can take quantum leaps over an off-season.

Laf has the worst numbers since Chris Phillips. A stay-at-home defenseman who went 1st in the worst draft of all time. When Derek Morris is arguably the best first dman rounder that should tell you something. Briere was the only guy above 2nd line/2nd pairing in the entire first round.

Rangers have to hope he can turn it around.

Unfortunately he’s not likely to get much in the way of Top 6 minutes and consistent PP time with the way the Rangers are playing and personnel.

Tough one.

Because his value will certainly start to further decline if a similar season happens next year.

I don’t know enough about the player or his game, might consider getting out when the betting’s good from NY’s perspective

I mean, Hughes is also in a much better offensive situation than Lafreniere too. Not saying Lafreniere is better than Hughes, (he isn’t), but Hughes gets more minutes, has had more power play time, and in general has more to work with. Lafreniere’s only cameo in the top six of the Rangers was playing his wrong position. Don’t think it’s really a fair comparison. Other than they both went first, what do they have in common?

they really don't have anything else in common, that's why it's quite perplexing as to why there always seems to be the obligatory Hughes/Laf narrative in every Laf related thread. It's just desperation for drama driven narratives at this point. This thread is about "should the Rangers trade Laf?" and then this becomes a comparison thread between Hughes and Laf? They weren't even in the same draft class...

Why on earth are we haveing all thse post about Laffy> nobody has called to offer 5 1st rounders. right now he is a 15 goal guy. Next year who knows. NY wont give up yet on him. Nobody will pay a Kings ransom until he IS a superstar. ALL this right now is MOOT.
