Good luck to whoever signs him

no team can shelter him like the Blues have (at least no team with the cap space to get him for that)

Jeff Gorton is not Glen Sather we will not continue to over pay players closing in on 30 the first few years of their deal. But that's ok that u think that. I hope we don't sign him because we have too much money tied into defense as it is

Just teasing.

It's the Rangers. They love overpaying free agents. They'll move a contract out then pay Shatty whatever he wants. It's the Rangers way. Sorry Rangers fans.

It actually hasn't been for a long time.

If we're going to sit in the pre-2004 lockout era, we can talk about how the Leafs went all-in every deadline only to not even come close.

Probably his initial ask. GM's have been pretty good lately. I'll say $45M over 7 years is the most he will make.

Would love him in the Arizona, our defence has been terrible this year. But i think Arizona can't afford him

I think Shattenkirk is great. His defense is very underrated and his offense at times can be a tad bit overrated (like someone said earlier he's fantastic on the PP, but hasn't been elite or anything on the 5 on 5.)

I think he's a #1 or at the very worst a fantastic #2. I'd take him in a nano-second on the Devils. Would overpay for him too. We'd field a good defense core with him:

Shattenkirk-Santini
Greene-Severson
Merrill-Auvitu

Whoever signs him (7x7?) will regret the deal by Year 2. Hope it's not AZ.

Finally someone sane, he's great defensively and having puck, best UFA defense likely to jump ship since Suter.

He is top 5 in points for defensemen, if he goes to ufa it will get ugly for one team and great for Shatty´s bank account. Tons of teams need RH top pair defensemen.
Byfuglien got 7,6
Burns 8,0
Seabrook 6,875
PK got 9,0
Giordano 6,75

Dont see Shatty signing for under 7 mill? What do you think?

Agree on the $'s, especially with the premium that dman seem to get.

What you're not mentioning is that Shattenkirk's contract will take him to 34/35 YO. Most of those other deals run until 37/38.

Shattenkirk is almost exclusively a RD. He's played on the left in several short stints on the Blues and each time was quickly moved back due to his poor play on his offside.

It's alot of money for a sheltered defensemen. Too rich for my blood.

Over the last three years his opponent CF% is 50%, and he's got 964 ozone faceoffs to 803 dzone faceoffs. His most common partner is Carl Gunnarsson. Doesn't seem super sheltered. Still don't think he's in a class with Burns and Buff. Low end 1D for me.

When Yandle got what he got, anything under 7m is steal if comparing those two.

I could see Buffalo making an offer on him. After Risto there's not much on defense and with a core of Eichel, ROR, Reinhart, Okposo and Nylander up front they could use a guy like Shatty.

7 for sure on a sign and trade.

If he goes to the open market I can't imagine how high the figure will go and how long the term will be if a team has to give up nothing to get him.

I hope Edmonton steers clear. Could be Justin Schultz part 2 here.

Shattenkirk is a good player, but unless the cap is going up significantly, his destination team will regret paying over 5.5, probably. He used to be better/more intense defensively, I think, and his ability to jumpstart offense at 5-on-5 is not as good as it needs to be for a player in his role. He's not only a powerplay specialist, but he's too close to that to be a 6+ million dollar player at the current salary cap.

2014-2015 was the only year where he played better both offensively and defensively than Pietrangelo, and he was a monster that year. He was better than Weber in my opinion that year, and after that he decides he'll retire defensively...

He has never played better defensively than Pietrangelo has. Not even close. In any given game, okay, but not even over a twenty game stretch, let alone a season. And that goes quadruple for the playoffs.
