Speculation: Shattenkirk will get 7-8 million as a ufa?

He is top 5 in points for defensemen, if he goes to ufa it will get ugly for one team and great for Shatty´s bank account. Tons of teams need RH top pair defensemen.

Probably will have to settle for around 6 if he really is as desperate to go there as some rumors want us to believe.

If he is fine with going to a team like Edmonton (which he does not seem to be) , NJ or DET, he might be able to get 7M+.


I don't think anyone is dumb enough to go above 7.5M but this UFA class is terrible and a lot of teams have a lot of money to throw around...

To be fair....its hard to not be shelteted by Pietrangelo and Parayko. He's looked good at times when Pietrangelo was down, but he's not a #1.

It's the Rangers. They love overpaying free agents. They'll move a contract out then pay Shatty whatever he wants. It's the Rangers way. Sorry Rangers fans.

Shattenkirk is a good player, but unless the cap is going up significantly, his destination team will regret paying over 5.5, probably. He used to be better/more intense defensively, I think, and his ability to jumpstart offense at 5-on-5 is not as good as it needs to be for a player in his role. He's not only a powerplay specialist, but he's too close to that to be a 6+ million dollar player at the current salary cap.

Jeff Gorton is not Glen Sather we will not continue to over pay players closing in on 30 the first few years of their deal. But that's ok that u think that. I hope we don't sign him because we have too much money tied into defense as it is

Also, agreed. I can't see the NYR paying Shattenkirk when they have Staal, Giradri, and McG on the roster.

Which is why people complain about players on too long contracts is assinine. There will be a new CBA in 2019.

The rigid cap in the NFL because no guaranteed contracts.

Part of the problem for me is that he's not a #1 but he's gonna be paid like one. The Leafs need to sign Zaitsev soon as well. That would be too much money tied up between Rielly,Zaitsev,Gardiner and Shattenkirk imo. Even though we expect them to continue improving, you're gonna have a hard time winning a cup with that as your top 4.
