That made me very happy. First period was grim, went to grill some trout. Ate the trout with a lovely pouilly-fume, came back and we were being outshot 27-7. And then Craig Smith and all other scrubs and newbies (and then Ovi) went off. Loved the energy tonight and Rasmus rocks

Reality will come back to earth when the Caps play the Kings n Phoenix Copley on Monday!

Maybe, however Caps seem to do ok on the road against better teams. It's the lesser tiered teams that is frustrating. That win in Boston was best hallmark of the season imho. It's still great to see talented youth play over stagnating veterans.

Despite scoring 8 goals, the story here was the young defensemen.

- Alexyev is looking like an NHL player. He needs to play a lot down the stretch over Irwin
- Iorio was good. Still has a lot to work on but would be great to see him get a few games (less than 10) before going back to Hershey
- Sandin is definitely has elite upside as a young d-man
- Carlsson held his own. Would like to resign him to a 2-way contract as a good call-up alternative

My game puck tonight goes to Vincent Iorio. Not the statistically best player in the game, but come on. Can’t not give it to him.

Honorable mentions go to Rasmus Sandin for 3 assists and a 61% xGF, Craig Smith with his first two goals, Ovechkin for 2 more, and Gabriel Carlsson with 2 apples.

Oh and one more honorable mention to this absolutely fantastic oaked avocado blossom mead.

Also Smith seems to have sussed out our team after 5 periods with us. His interview after the 2nd he says “We just need to take that extra stride or two.”

Kuznetsov, Backstrom, and Wilson in the bottom three is not encouraging. BMac has his work cut out for him this summer if this is the baseline for 92 and 19 moving forward.

Couldn’t watch tonight but great to see Ovi in the board plus points for Iorio and New Jack Hillen.
Kuzy has no excuse. Backy/Wilson have had no training camp and been trying to catch up since they returned. Besides, Backy/Wilson get a pass anyways. Wilson had his adrenaline surge and had some good offensive production when he came back, but the lack of training camp probably showing now.

For sure, though I think Wilson has been good and shouldn’t be lumped into the same group as Kuznetsov and Backstrom.

I think it’s fair to say that if they want to be competitive next year at least one of Kuznetsov and Backstrom can’t be on the roster.

But, but Irwin would like a word.
