After moving down to section 6, someone in the section to my right told me "you'll like this pick", after I said his name, wondering who he is.

Check out this thread from a NYR message board. It's pretty entertaining how they thought they were going to sign Myles Bell and didn't realize he had to go back into the draft.

Technically there is a window in the summer to sign North American players who have remaining draft eligibility. The Sharks have done this a few times since the 2005 CBA. They signed Michael Sgarbossa and J.P. Anderson this way. The Kings signed Martin Jones like this.

So they could have signed him, but they would have had to commit to a three year contract.

To be fair, after he switched to forward he did put up those points as a 19 yr old according to twitter, most in that league are 17-18 apparently. IDK though, anyone who puts up points is good for me!

I like this pick, a guy changes position so nobody is probably that sure what to make of this guy now. May have gotten passed over a bunch unjustly due to uncertainly and age.

For some small comparison, Colton Scissons is a little over 2 months younger than Bell. Scissons scored 67 points in 61 games and was +43. Bell scored 93 points in 69 games and was +46. Scissons was the 50th overall pick last year and Bell was the 160th pick this year.

Obviously someone who watched them play will have a much better feel than looking at just the end of season point totals but that comparison above looks nice.

Bell is also a pretty big guy, which doesn't hurt.

Scissons projects to be more of a character 3rd liner. He wasn't the type that was going to put up big numbers even in juniors.

I guess we'll see about Bell. It didn't even dawn on me that he'll be a candidate to play in Albany immediately. Before the accident in 2011, he was projected to go somewhere in the 3rd round (as a D), maybe even as high as the late 2nd. On the prospects board, Renegade Stylings (works for a WHL team) had been touting Bell for a couple years.

20 year old defensive raised forward with a wicked shot that is used to playing point on PP. I have a funny feeling we will see this kid once or twice in the year as needed

the more i think about it, the more i really like what lou did with the picks he had. everybody we drafted has the potential to be a booming steal.

All I can see is he's listed as a forward, what specific position soes he play.

Hopefully it's LW or C so we can continue having only one RW prospect in the system.

From an article a couple of months back he said himself he plays RW and not LW as it says on most websites. Don't know how accurate that is, especially towards the end of the season but it does sound kind of believable when it's from the person in question.

Also, saw that his slap shot clocked in at 98mph when he was 17. Will be interesting to see what happens to him next season. Bell said himself he'd like to continue as a forward, no wonder considering his success this year.

maybe a shot like that could convince deboer to move kovy from the point if he ever makes it.

well, everyone besides him and brodeur. see pretty limited upside with those two, but still you never know.

I'm not going to shove Tony Brodeur into a closet and forget about him like many are here apparently.

I think he CAN be, at the risk of hijacking this thread, a very good Goaltender.

“I had actually seen Myles myself when he was a defenseman and I don’t think I’ve seen a player shoot the puck any harder than he shoots,†Lamoriello said. “And when I say that I’m not exaggerating. And now they put him up to forward. “He’s certainly gone through some tragedy and some situations unfortunately sometimes you have to get through. He’s got talent and can score goals and I will tell you he can shoot the puck. So, it’s one of those upside situations that you take a chance on.†Lamoriello said “we have every indication†that Bell has matured since the accident and learned from it."

Pretty high praise for his shot from Lou.

Extremely high praise from Lou.

Myles would do well to take full advantage of this opportunity since Lou is basically sticking his proverbial neck out for him. Hopefully he does well and does not disappoint the Godfather.
