People keep reating after eachother that mantra. His skill AND his vision both can't be described as just decent unless you just don't watch him.

Expecting him to be a low pay high reward player at some point is ridiculous. Every prospect can bust. If he succeeds by any measure he will command some serious money. He is not your Maroon type of player.

To call him a complementary player is as absurd as it gets as he is actually the guy who drives lines and he will continue to do that.

And to call him a not a posession player is just beyond all sorts of reality. That is all Podkolzin is about. Getting posession, keeping posession, distributing pucks.
He needs to stay in Russia or his development will be ruined.

But a forward who is drafted 8th overall,...gets judged, always, by his goals and points
and not how he plays, or how much team points he brings. etc. etc.
- and his point production so far as a pro...not good and its not like he hasn't gotten a shot already in the top 6,
even if has mostly played limited minutes

What type of player he is?, in the NHL, if he ever plays there that is. - that is the question -

Is he a low scoring defensive forward?
Mid range scoring grinder / two way forward?

At this point, difficult to see him as a top 6, goal & point scoring forward in the NHL.

Because, he needs to improve so much to be that, the biggest concern is his hockey IQ, the lack of it
and his super weak shot. Sure, he is a great skater, has a strong, bull like drive forwards,
is good at his own end, so for his own end at least, he possess plenty of hockey IQ, its the o-zone thou...

Hey anything can happen in 2-3 years, the time when he is probably gonna enter the NHL,
lets wait and see. At the moment however, the hype is bonkers and Canucks and other fans thinks
he would already be that in the NHL, what ever he might project to be in the future.

Oh look who's back after mysteriously disappearing from this thread during the back half of last season.

You are correct, when Pod only gets ~3min a game, he does not put up points - what a shocker.

Fortunately we have also seen him in a different role getting ~10min/game, and he put put up 2nd line numbers during that period. Like it or not, that's great production from such a young player in the KHL.

I have no clue if he'll be a top line forward in the NHL, but watching you twist yourself into a pretzel to discount him has been entertaining to say the least.

he just to for whatever reason spread doubt among Canuck fans. Nothing more. He doesn't even know when he got drafted that's how far off his post is. He literally didn't even notice he was finally given a top 6 role during the playoffs and posted 3 points in 4 games against men. He just wants Canucks fans to not be excited about a draft pick?

I will just assume you mean some 21y.o. drafted 8th overall. Wrong thread though.

How he played thou and got only 12:15 of ice time - 6th fewest ice time of SKA forwards BTW.
And that was a secondary assist FYI.

Sure, when you play only 12 minutes, there's only so much you can do but, that also shows you
at least his coaches thinks, he is not ready yet for a bigger role in the team.

not many 19 year olds will be ready for a "bigger role" in any professional league like cmon, the Sedins averaged 13 minutes a game from 2001 to 2004.

Probably geo-blocked in NA, but still, use a VPN or something...

https://video.khl.ru/iframe/feed/st...18&autostart=1&width=100%&height=100%&lang=ru

The official KHL site offers great vids of plays. They are a bit longer. Just watch Podkolzin distribute pucks throughout the sequence. He controls the whole play, then when he gets the puck again he does what great ODs do(and he is a winger), fires exactly the kind of shot you need for a redirection from the blue line. If you are still calling him a drive to the net complementary goal scorer with just "decent" vision, you are just jealous.

Must hurt some feelings that he starts getting points right away:sarcasm:
