Maroon can be the Malone to McDavid's Crosby.

But who fits on the right wing the best? Eberle and McDavid played well enough together but Eberle was effectively useless when he wasn't scoring.

Yeah Eberle is an enigma for me. He's frustrating defensively, but he's got a great shot and excellent release. Plus, he's right handed which we don't have much of up front. There seems to be some serious chemistry between him and McDavid.

Maroon with them on that line looked really good. It's a good blend. You have a big, physical guy like Maroon who is phenomenal on the cycle game and getting to the front of the net, Maroon also has some soft hands and a nice shot. You also have 97 who is the best skater in the league and has elite vision. And then you got Ebs a right handed shot who knows how to bury his chances when he gets them.

Exactly. Size isn't everything. Make that mistake and you'll end up with Pajaarvi's instead of Marchands

A team needs a balance. Too big and faster team skate around them. Too small and they get pushed off the puck and can't play a cycle.

The Oilers now are more of the latter and less of the former. We could still use some more size in the top 6

Scoring. We actually dont do a lot of it. Too many proposals here are trying to turn Oilers into Kings or Bruins or the Cup winning template from 2012. We swung the balance of this team too far to being big physical players, with actually a lack of skill and scoring

The teams winning now are balanced teams with emphasis on skill and speed. Hawks were actually a relative small team, we are actually bigger than them. They won 3 cups. Tampa made it to finals and were a skilled team. Pens will be winning cup with similar make up to us (but better)

Going all in for Lucic/Ladd/Backes is just overkill to the max. Id argue our top 6 is actually big enough to win once we pick Dubios or Tkachuk. Great mix of size/skill/2 way. Maroon/Pouliot/Draisaitl/Hall all above 6'1, none get pushed around. Add Tkachuk or Dubios and top 6 is top 10 for size in league

Either way, if we are removing too much scoring via trade and replacing it with low scoring grinders well be in for a world of hurt. Considering we are already a bottom 10 team for scoring

yep.

and another thing to note is that the Pens will probably hoist the Cup tomorrow with one highend dman, and the rest of the dcorp average and unremarkable. Do we really need two top 4 dmen? I'm starting to think we just need one good, PMD/PP specialist (of course, one that can play at least top 4 minutes and preferably top 2). Might be best to wait until after the expansion draft to get the second good dman, if need be.

I'm a firm believer in a balanced roster.
Two of the top six being bigger, two being above average two way forwards and two to focus on scoring. The more players who can do two or three the better.

Third and fourth a bit grittier but still needing a handful of 35+ point forwards.

I like the idea of a gritty as hell defender on the bottom pairing and then a mix of offense and defense on the top 2 pairings. Biggest thing for defenders is quick decision making and getting the puck to our forwards for a quick transition rush. Catch some teams on bad changes and force odd man rushes.

I'm convinced if we did got a #1 guy like Subban (or maybe to a lesser extent Faulk or Lindholm) that we don't need to go crazy and add anyone else before seeing the fit.

Add a REAL #1 dman to this group, and watch how much better it makes Klefbom, Sekera, Fayne, Nurse etc when these guys dont have to play above their heads.

I like this but I think we would have to find a way to get one of their 1st round picks back as well. We are taking on alot of salary and could use a blue chip prospect to replace whoever we lose in the expansion draft. RNH and Faulk even out in terms of actual dollars left Faulk is owed 23 Million over 4 years and RNH 30 over 5. Stall is owed 42 million dollars. For a team with the financial woes of Carolina taking that contract off their hands for a top 5 pick has alot of value. This is probably a deal where ownership would be jumping at it.

I also think their ownership jumps on a deal like that. I love it for us with our Centers going forward. McDavid, Draisaitl and Staal. I would also trade Davidson, Yak and 2017 First for Hamonic. Sign Lucic to 5.5 for 6 years. Trade our own second for Shaw, then sign for 4 years at 3 . Sign Ward for 2. Pouliot for a second and a third. Korpikoski for a 4th. This line up fits under the cap. We need to make the playoffs next year.

Lucic McDavid Eberle
Hall Draisaitl Shaw
Maroon Stall Pitlick
Hendricks Letestu Kassian
Lander

Klefbom Faulk
Sekera Hamonic
Nurse Fayne
Reinhart

Talbot
Ward

You know, it'd really scary imagining what our line-up could look like in a few years given how the cap could drop over the summer.

Can we really afford to have prospects like Nurse and Reinhart to be fighting for the #6 spot on a nightly basis? Nobody is going to complain about that top 4. It's exactly what we need if we want to make a serious push.

I think going for Shaw is going too far. We're going to have to resign Drai and McDavid soon.

Think about every other team though. Everyone's gonna have to drop a lot too. Honestly Hall and one of Eberle or RNH at 6 mil is helpful.
