The loss lies on
Keefe. What a horrible decisions there.

best thing for the marlis is to lose a series ,honestly then we can close the book on the some of the hysteria serounding these prospects

if u cant bring your A GAME in the ahl playoffs ,u aint playing for a babcock coached team ,u don't blame keefe he trusted guys **** the bed

I think Keefe relied heavily on Soupy Campbell a lot this year and his absence is showing on the defensive side right now. Kinda amazed at the panic on this board after a one goal loss. They will learn from those mistakes and win this series.

I watched just the overtime and the Marlies were not the better team. Albany shut them down defensively and it was usually a one and done attempt. Albany also had more odd man rushes and you could sense that they were eventually going to win the game. Hopefully Marlies can take the next one!

Healthy experienced players beat 20 year olds much of the time in pro hockey.
Not icing about 10 25+ year olds is the only "mistake" the Marlies have made. And thank goodness they haven't gone that route because the bigger goal is player development not the Calder Cup. The young players need this experience. And they may yet overcome it.

Agreed. Could be that all the movement of players up and down between the Marlies and the Leafs has also really hurt them for the playoffs. I know most teams in the AHL have movement, but what we saw between NHL and AHL was definitely a bit abnormal in Toronto. Team seems to lack a bit of cohesion and understanding at the moment, so could be a case of them getting better as the playoffs progress. Lets just hope it doesn't end with Albany.

How did Nylander look last night? I thought he was quite invisible and ineffective in game two.

Keefe has to give him better line mates than Ben Smith. He is also coming of illness so he will take some more time

Arcabello should be removed from first unit on power play. He has been a big disappointment

After he carried val dor in the mem cup I've been a fan.

Yeah.. that was a pretty special series... S/O in his first game, blew me away..
I think he had something like 56-57 saves in that one..? He made 36, in this game..

He was dominant in all his games, which was really impressive as he was basically being shelled each game.
What stood out was his positioning. He was just there for the shot and when he had to move he was very agile. Really hope this kid pans out.

I have a lot of faith in his skills and ability to improve a lot more.. and I think a lot of people need to focus on the bolded words.. He's young.. and most goalies usually don't come into their best seasons, until after 25..

I remember Gretzky saying he learned more about winning when they lost to the Islanders in their first Stanley Cup finals then he ever did at almost any other time. These guys are in the AHL to learn and sweeping every team may not have been the best thing. A little adversity and even losing may be better in the long run if they take away the right things.

I'm pretty sure that this series will go the full 7 games...
and that the AHL is hoping so too.., because they know how many
people are closely watching this series..

It's really the two top AHL teams, in this match-up, folks..
If we get through this series.. (and I think we will), start planning the parade.. :)

This game was ours to lose, no sense pointing fingers, remember we have one of the youngest teams in the AHL and it showed on occasional plays but chalk it up to inexperience, I think they played hard and very well.

I'm looking forward to the next game tomorrow, 7PM Leafs TV - TSN 1050

Go Marlies Go!

Seems it is always the coach over the years.

Maybe the opposition deserves credit? They look like a veteran lead team.

Their hitting the Marlies every chance they get and it's working, it was apparent that some of them didn't want the puck at all. Our defence is soft and hardly win a battle, the shots on goal for the 3rd period and the over time were dominated by Albany who spent most of that time in the Marlie end. A lesson for the future too many Runts cannot win a physical series.

Runts? Seriously? Our defence is big and mobile. Size has been proven to mean next to nothing on the offensive side. Puck possession and skill is important not size. I'm an old guy that played much of my hockey in the brawling era but I've come to learn that the myth of size is just a myth. Even the old days had Clarke, Dionne, Maruk, etc. etc.

The Marlies defence is extremely young other than Brennan and they are learning how to maintain possession while under physical attack from an experienced hard hitting team. Great learning process. I believe the skill will win in this series. The Marlies will fight back through this. They had they game in hand and made a couple critical mistakes at the end. Perfect - this is the AHL - learn it here and now.

The only criticism in retrospect I have is playing Johnson in a game like that. He looked outa sorts and apprehensive on the boards but it was his first game in the small rink and in a brutal N.A. style battle. I question the staff on that one not the player. They need to ease Johnson into it.
