I don't understand the logic of trading a defenseman with a bad contract for a different differenseman with a bad contract? Or why the hell Chicago would want Marc Staal?
Chicago does that trade to get IMMEDIATE cap relief on the $ dif and the ability to more readily move/liquidate the balance of Staal's deal, which is not too bad once his NMC reverts to NTC
They don't want Staal
The premise is they take him now because they may/may not get a better deal, but any deal will not be headache free, and Seabs would have to approve.
The Rangers do this because they cannot move Staal with his NMC and part of the premise is Chicago might be the only exception he would consider to waive to.
You want to trade a 5-year 5.7m AAV contract for an 8-year 6.875m contract and call it "getting rid of a bad contract".
Okay...
Just be accurate, not out of context
that's all I ask
it is taking on a worse contract $ wise that Rangers can more easily move in exchange for a bit less onerous one that is extremely difficult to move
It is not Seabrook's job to fix Chicago's cap issues. He has a contract with 46 million left over 7 years after this season.
Let Chicago buy him out. He can get paid 2/3 of that (losing 15m) and then sign a contract elsewhere getting more money. He can sign another 7m deal for 3m and come out on top with more money.
he
There is absolutely no reason for Seabrook to waive his NMC. And if he does for a trade to the Rangers, he won't waive it again to be traded elsewhere in a week, as you stated in your plans
Seabrook is out for Seabrook's best interests
He knows surely his days in Chicago are numbered
He sees long term he cannot fit in NYR
You must acknowledge, like it or not, this is reality
If he was not ambushed, brought in at square one, and given every opportunity to be relocated to the preferred destination of choice, that would be the best, most realistic option for Seabrook to control his fate going forward.
Doesn't have to be within a week, just without delay, presumably over the off season, but if he has a suitor before for playoffs, fine
