Wonder what happens with AHL? Taxi squads? Black Aces? Cap implications? More loans to Europe? Also, this will likely have a big impact on anything about to happen to rosters (UFAs and trades) before quarantine and camps begin. Interesting...

AHL is expected to start Feb 5th.

logistically, I would have swapped Carolina with Pittsburgh.

logistically, I would have swapped Carolina with Pittsburgh.

The closest NHL city to Pittsburgh is Columbus, and vice versa, so logistically it makes more sense to keep them in the same division. Meanwhile, Washington is half the distance from Raleigh that the next closest NHL city is (Nashville). Or, put another way, Raleigh is closer to DC than Pittsburgh is to Philadelphia.

The one that really sticks out here is Buffalo, which geographically really should be in the Pittsburgh/Columbus/Detroit group, but if they wanted Boston in with the NYC teams, they needed to move one more team over.

Travis Yost proposed a division realignment that included the all-Canadian division and was based on minimizing travel time between the American cities in each of the other divisions back in October. It was based on the travel time between the American cities' closest airports. The Rangers' division would swap CAR, CBJ and PIT for BOS.

Of course we still are stuck in the division of death but whatever just bring hockey back and it is possibly if things get better and border opens up we can move back to previous divisions.

I think people often forget how far apart Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are despite being located in the same state

The South could be just as hard as the East there. Pitt gets a much much easier division of course.

It also puts Pittsburgh in the division of death in a shortened season with an unprotected first round pick. Could be fun.
Yes Minn fans will be much happier unless somehow that Lakes division becomes reality. Then Pitt probably takes 1st or 2nd.

I just hope that this season stays pretty "safe"
NHL did great not getting any COVID cases during the playoffs but it's a different beast now
Pushing the start a bit later does mean maybe this current surge dies down but hopefully you don't get players catching COVID over Christmas and still being infectious when camp starts

would completely suck to win the 1st overall and then have Laf get COVID and never be the same
