It's not a good team obviously, but it might be more watchable this yr. MDZ potentially makes a big difference in transition. Don't love Dorsett but nice to hear he'll be alright. Assuming Green isn't a donkey, he'll play 10-12 minutes a game and help provide some grit.

well it is always watchable as far as i'm concerned. at least we should have a decent AHL team. doubt all these depth guys on oneway deals will be taken from us.

Those forward lines are atrocious. Huge holes left by the trade of Hansen and Burrows, although the Burrows trade was definitely worth it. There is nothing good about that lineup. It's somehow both old and inexperienced and likely the softest roster in the league. Probably the least physical lineup the Canucks have ever iced in over 45 years. It has a few fast players but it's not a fast lineup and we will be lucky to have two 20 goal scorers. I don't think we have a single penalty killing winger either unless you count Gaunce as a winger.

The little things that Burrows and Hansen did for a line will be greatly missed. Only Eriksson left as an experience glue guy with Gaunce heading in that direction. Hard to spread that out over four lines.

With so many bubble skill guys, one should be moved for a PKer. Can we just reverse the Hansen trade?

hopefully at least one breaks out into something useful cause there are a lot of guys in similar spots here right now.

Defense could be a bit better than last year but when injuries strike as usual it's gonna look really ugly. Goaltending will be worse but I'm happy that Miller is finally gone. Looks like a team that traded everyone away for more draft picks while tanking for a generational talent except we did neither. Year 4 of spinning the wheels and adding barely any extra draft picks while simultaneously trying to retool and make the playoffs.

Pretty much.

The lack of any sort of personnel to build a checking line to take hard minutes/defensive zone starts and kill penalties is amazing. Doubly so since these idiots think Sutter is an offensive star who needs to get offensive minutes.

We'll probably score a few more goals than last year but we're going to take a huge hit defensively. The amount of heavy lifting that Burrows and Hansen did defensively is MASSIVELY underrated by this fanbase.

You could easily do a Gaunce-Chaput-Sutter line as a line to eat those hard minutes and just flood them with defensive zone starts. Or Gaunce-Sutter-Dorsett. But as mentioned above, the usage of Sutter has been terrible thus far so I'm not holding my breath.

Green hasn't had time to develop any serious neuroses.

It'll be sunshine and lollipops in his first season and then Jimbo will drop the hammer in his second season and crush his spirit by spending the Sedin cap money on Joe Thornton and Rick Nash.

It is known.

It definitely looks like when you see the bodies, and look at the contracts... that we will be allowing ALL our waiver exempt players to simmer and develop in the AHL to begin the season and work them in as injuries present themselves later in the season.

I no longer expect Juolevi to get his 9 games unless there are multiple injuries or he dominates in preseason. The roster numbers don't seem to add up for him to be part of the opening day 23. Give him 6 of the 8 preseason games (skip the first 2 LA games) and see what he does.

At least it is setting up to be one of the most intriguing seasons to be following the farm.

Yup. I'd probably take the same approach. Get young guys in when injuries happen. Hopefully build a decent point total in Utica. Bring some guys up after the deadline once they are eligible for AHL playoffs. Then take a run at the Calder cup to get playoff experience.

Looking at that roster and just thinking, who is going to hit in that lineup? It's not the most important thing but you need guys to get in hard on defensemen or have some push back. Did Benning abandon the idea of being hard to play against?

Dorsett, Dorsett and more Dorsett.

Geezes.

Is this the softest Canuck forward line up in history?

Conversation probably starts with Tanev, and doesn't end there.

Hutton doesn't hold enough value to be a centrepiece for Pastrnak.

I would move Tanev + Sutter + Granlund for Pastrnak. He's one of those players who would be part of the new core.

Obviously. But Boston laughs at that.

They probably ask for Horvat + Pettersson + a #1 pick for him. The guy was just a top-10 goalscorer in the NHL at age 20. His trade value is utterly massive, as high as anyone in the NHL short of Mathews/McDavid/Eichel/Laine.

You DO realize that Sutter can not realistically be considered as adding value to any deal that he's apart of right?

Not gonna happen.

Sutter will be a Canuck till the bitter bitter end.

Besides, we don't need wingers. We need centers!!!
