The two best offensive D in the OHL right now are Sean Durzi and Mac Hollowel, both were at Leafs Dev Camp.
Haven't watched him, but Durzi has absolutely absurd stats for a Dman. Could see him be a 2nd round pick this year if his production doesn't fall off a cliff, even if Owen Sound is an offensive juggernaut.

Not sure how reliable the AHL shot stats are but 27 to 6 in the last 2 periods is insane. Domination. About time we broke through in the 3rd for 4 with that kinda of flow.

Even though they won 4-1 yesterday, Keefe wasnt at all happy the way they played. It looks like they responded today.

Just stats watching but what's up with the PP? One of the worst in the league.

Yeah that one is wierd. According to Keefe, when they do get set up, than its fine. However the problem is the setting up part. It should hopefully get better in time though. Apparently Lilly has been one of the better players on the PP.
The great thing is they have a great PK. Play solid defence and get timely scoring.
Management added a lot of depth defensively. Lose 2 main guys in Valiev and Lilly, yet still look fine.

That is still a very solid defence core.
Keefe has a lot of tough decisions to make when Lilly and Valiev return.

It's too bad Lilj's injury happened in an untelevised game here so no one saw what happened... Hopefully it wasn't a concussion

Middleton is off to a good start

9 points in 14 games for a defensive specialist on a pretty bad team is solid stuff, if he can move the puck with his size, defensive ability, physicality and skating we may be onto something

He's playing for the OHL team on Monday against the Russians.

The setting up troubles don't surprise me. He's had them since he's come here. It's way too predictable, and really it's on him to fix that.

Cycling is a lot easier if you just have skill guys and run a pretty generic set up like the Marlies do. As long as they aren't stupid and try to force things, kind of like the Leafs' PP recently, it'll be fine. Setting it up is the hard part, and that's mostly on the coaching to fix.

I dont agree with this. In his first season, he had a top 10 PP. Last season it was ranked #4. You cant be that good on the PP if they have always had setting up issues with him as coach.
Also Meh even if that is the main issue for him as a coach, than he is doing a solid job overall. Keefe has been terrific.
Its pretty awesome to have great coaches in the NHL and AHL.

Now the thing is Keefe doesnt even handle the PP. That is A.J Maclean's duties. So if anything we should be looking at him.
Just like how Oilers complain about Woodcroft. He handles PP and its terrible.

Although that PP also contained guys like Nylander, Kapanen, Leipsic, and the list goes on... It may seem stupid to complain about a top 10 PP, but when you have the best PP talent in the league, you'd hope you would at least be one of the top 2 both seasons.

And my mistake on the PP thing, but I do know he had troubles on the break outs and entries in 5v5. I assumed they transferred to PP as well.

I guess I just expect more out of a guy who has that much talent. Seemed like he always tries to force things when if he just thinks thing through a bit, he could have been a lot more successful. Just comparing the skill of his teams to how well he's done, I think it's been a disappointment. Nothing worth firing over, but eventually you need to see these young guys make strong progression on these mistakes, and to see at least a legitimate run to the Calder Cup. Winning it is not as important as seeing the young guys develop into good Leafs/assets the Leafs can use, but when you lose due to things that they should be fixing in order to become these hockey players, that is when it's frustrating.

Marlies could do a lot worse, but I do not think the skill of the coach matches the skill of the team yet, and Keefe still has a lot to learn before he's ready to take over the NHL reins. The good news is that he has like almost 6 more years to learn (assuming he doesn't try to jump ship early) and he has made some progression since he's come here, so you'd hope he becomes a pretty damn good coach by the time he's coaching the Leafs.

Agree mostly. I dont think he is perfect. I dont like a few things he does. However I think he gets a lot out of the team. His way of giving rookies minimal playing time, and then giving a huge role the next season works. Kapanen and Timashov are great examples.
The PP rankings are fine. No matter how much talent a team may have, your results might not match the talent level. Sometimes its just how it is.
Marlies PP has been top 10 so its been fine.
I agree though Keefe isnt ready for the NHL and needs more time.

Based on my rough estimate, Lilly gets just over 21 minutes in ice time per game. Dont ask me how I calculated this number. All though the ES number is given on the Prospect stats site.
ESTOI/GP: 15:29
PPTOI/GP: 5:33

This is assuming he gets no PK time, which based on box scores, I dont think he does.

I'm curious how Marchment is looking to people. How is his speed, both when it comes to footspeed/agility and in mental reactions?

Safe to say we're looking at a max 5 Leafs at the WJC this year

Liljegren, Woll, Greenway, Rasanen, Kara

not sure about Greenway at all he has stepped away for personal issues from his ncaa team. Liljegren's injury hopefully doesn't mean he could miss, I doubt it though. Rasanen has a tough road to make the finnish team. Woll I think comfortably makes the US team in what capacity I don't know

Remote possibility of Middleton as well. Extreme outside shot but with the offensive firepower of that prospective d-core I could see a coach taking him over Stanley/Hague with they want to bring size for the 7th
