People put so much focus into not willing to give up anything remotely fair especially when you present them with all the facts and data to support a strong argument...

Let's all be honest here, the talent pool in the last 3 to 4 draft cycles has been weak or overstated.
Plus hockey has lost 2 years of playing a normal season and for many of these kids that means development and creating a solid enough history. With that said do you truly believe this year or the next few years is going to produce solid talent ?

So for many teams to offer a 1st like Toronto who has not enough cap space or assets to pluck a higher caliber player or new jersey who sees future upward positive growth plus having the assets and picks. It's a win win situation for many teams... Hagel 98 games 54 points 23 years old making 1.5 million for 2 years....

Why? Chicago has been pumping out these guys who have a career year playing alongside Kane then they fall off hard. Add this kid to the list with the likes of Kahun, Panarin and Kubalik. He's not worth a 1st, let alone a 1st plus a decent young player and prospect.

Funny part is that Kane has only actually been alongside one of those players for any substantial time in a season.
In Kubalik's career year he only spent 16% of his total 5v5 ice time with Kane, even in his 2nd season it was just a bit below 11% of total ice time. For Kahun is was just over 10% of his total 5v5 ice time.
