Ok now that we've cleaned house, I would like to see a meaningful acquisition that will help push this roster further. Well done George.

Assuming that CapGeek is correct, we would actually be able to fit Halak in under the cap if Neuvy went the other way. With Kuznetsov signed at 900k we would be left with 92,251$ worth of cap space.

I like this deal if only because Erat is gone. Klesla...is not an upgrade.

Would have to think they'd send Orlov down for Hillen, which is a sad day for us. Also missing Carrick on that list. He'd be in Erskine's spot.

Meh. Brown sounds a bit interesting. Caps have what, @ $3 mil in cap space now?
Back of the envelope I think it's more like $1.75M but that could be eaten up rather quickly just by recalling Klesla and signing Kuznetsov.

So. Basically, the same deal rumored to have been in the works a month ago, but now with less pro-rated cap space?

Whatever, it's over.

Not ideal, but GM may have saved some face here. Still have no idea why the deal was made in the first place.

Can anyone explain to me how this trade is a good thing? GMGM traded for a guy who makes 2.9 million that is relegated to the minors. I understand his contract expires this year but now to me this creates a situation where they can't improve the team.

Also, how do they have any cap room left? My math is bad but: Penner (2 million) + Klesla (2.9 million) > Erat (4.5 million). How does that work? (I know everything is pro-rated at this point in the season)

as much as I hate gmgm, both these deals are solid IMO. Not earth shattering, but we gave up nothing of significance outside erat who wanted out. We created cap space and gained a nice prospect and a top 6 wing.

I'm confused. How did we create cap space if we took more $$$ back than we pushed out?

Well who the hell knows if this pans out but it had to be done. GMGM dug a hole and just had to get out of it. Erat did not help his cause or the team by making his demands public and killing GMGM's leverage. McPhee was lucky to get any value at all.

I feel like as ungodly awful as our D is they'll almost have to play Klesla. That means some other things need to happen. Positioning ourselves for something bigger tomorrow?

Didn't Phoenix waive Klesla earlier in the year and no one picked him up? That might be slightly disconcerting.
